Five in a Row for the North!
By M. SOBER
AUBURN, CA, JULY 15
In the I Sth running of the North vs. South Civil War of
Speedway, the Northern team systematically rode away to
another rather lopsided victory. It was the fifth win in a row for
the hometown team, which increased last year's winning margin
by one point, 71 to 49. Led by main-event winner Bobby "The
Blaze" Hedden and Chris Kerr, who scored 14 points apiece, the
North was tied with the South after one heat and then led the
entire points race thereafter.
In the first of four rounds, Colorado native Buck Blair
surprised Mike Faria and Chad Felicio right out of the gate and
led the whole way, leaving the meeting tied after one ride.
In the next three heats, Bart Bast, Hedden and Chris Kerr
posted wins, which meant a 17-7 Northern lead after the forst
full round.
The South closed the gap by a couple of points when Charlie
Venegas won and Blair's third-place run put Kerr and Mall
B,owne on the short end of a 4-to-2 score. The two Heddens,
Bobby and Tommy, showed no mercy to Randy DiFrancesco and
Nate Perkins in the next heat, sweeping the top two places with
some fine, spot-on team riding. After a round and a half, the
North had doubled the South's score, 24-12. Ryan Fisher's
three-point win only pulled the South even in heat seven, but
Faria's win ahead of Bobby Schwartz gave the North a 31-17
advantage after two rounds.
Blair continued his imp essive riding with a win in event nine, bot
