AMA Ford Quality Checked
ter heavy rains plagued the
Missouri State Fair in Sedalia,
Missouri, for nine of 10 days
before round 12 of the AMA
ord Quality Checked Flat
Track Championship, State Fair Speedway's clay half mile was soft and inconsistent, making the race more a matter of
survival.
But on the same track where the great
Will Davis paid the ultimate price for the
sport he loved, the new number 21 , Jared
Mees, displayed remarkable consistency,
battling through three restarts to earn his
second career Grand National win, this
one coming in the same season as the first.
"It was a really long night," the
Saddlemen/Lancaster Harley-Davidsonl
Dodge Brothers-sponsored Mees said. "I
hate the restarts. I had Will Davis behind
me. Before I went out for the main event,
I got a God Speed 21 sticker and stuck it
on the back of my seat. He was right there;
he was on the front of my tank and right
behind me.
"I want to thank Saddlemen, Lancaster
H-D, Mike Bell Racing and Johnny Goad for
doing my wrenching," Mees added. "He's
awesome. I'm kind of at a loss for words,
but I did it for Will Davis."
The hot, humid night had turned into a
crashfest long before the IS-rider National
took to the track, and that was just the
beginning. It took four starts and nearly an
hour to run the 25-lap race.
"With all the restarts, it messes with
A
your mind," Mees said. "There are seven
or eight minutes between each start.
That's half a National."
