Parts Canada Superbike Championship
Rounds 2-3: Race City Motorsport Park
McBain Sweeps to the Top
By
JOHN HOPKINS
CALGARY, AB, CANADA, JULY 2·3
t took Clint McBain just over two years to win
his forst Parts Canada Superbike Championship
race. It took him just 24 hours to win his second.
The Calgary racer shed his bridesmaid
image in decisive fashion at Race City
Motorsport Park by sweeping both ends of the
Superbike doubleheader, delighting a raucous
home crowd. Alter easily qualifying on pole lor
both 18-lap races, McBain led every lap of each
one on his 81ackloot Suzuki GSX-R I000.
In the first race, he led home the
Snobgirls/laval Moto Suzuki of Frands Martin by
4.025 seconds. Steve Crevier was third aboard
the Diablo Performance Honda CBR IOOORR.
A day later, McBain beat the Fast Company
Honda 01 Jordan Szoke by 3.024 seconds,
while Martin completed the podium. McBain
also set the fastest lap in that race, touring the
2.G-mile track in one minute and 17.013
seconds on the I Ith lap.
"Today was a big relief," said McBain after
completing the sweep. "It was time I got to the
front. 1proved I could do it, and I did it in style."
The two wins also gave McBain the Parts
Canada Superbike points lead after three of
eight races. He lelt Calgary with 139 points, to

the 134 of Martin, who won the opening round
at Shannonville Motorsport Park. A victory is
worth SO points.
While McBain charged away at the front in
both Superbike features, the action was intense
behind him. The opening race featured a
tremendous battle for second between Martin
and Crevier, with the pair trading the spot
repeatedly over the second half of the race.
The Honda rider was nursing a shoulder
separation he sustained in the Road America
AMA Superbike event three weeks earlier.
After a poor start lelt him eighth at the end
of the opening lap, Szoke fought his way back up
to fourth. McBain's Blackfoot Suzuki teammate
Kevin Lacombe completed the top fIVe.
The next day, Szoke, Martin and Lacombe
settled into a battle for second, behind McBain.
Szoke and Martin swapped second back and
forth, usually with Martin drafting past on the
long drag-strip front straight, only to have the
Honda rider outbrake him into turn one and
hold him off through the twisty south end of
the circuit. Lacombe was never far behind but
couldn't challenge the pair ahead of him and
settled for fourth at the finish.
Two-time defending class champion Pascal
Picotte completed the top five on his Picotte

14, Crevier just held off Peris's Topline Yamaha
YZF-R6, McBain's Suzuki, and the lactory
Kawasaki 01 Tom Kipp.
The next day, Crevier and McBain traded
the lead throughout the race, but Crevier hung
on to win by 0.166 seconds, setting the fastest
lap on the penultimate tour of the race.
For the second straight year, Olivier
Spilborghs won the International Motorcycle
Supers how Amateur 600cc Sportbike leature
