AMA Ford Quality Checked Flat Track Championship actually set up well in advance of turn one. "It actually started to happen coming out of three and four," johnson said. "Chris [Carr] was going fast all day. He's always fast here. I saw where johnny [Murphree] got by him - saw what he did. Chris was running a real high line in one and squaring it off really hard. Igot alongside him one time and didn't realize he was going to square it, and we came pretty close to hitting. I saw what he was doing and followed that line a little bit. I was able to go in high and square it off and get by him. I fought pretty hard to get third, and I'm happy. The bike ran great. We just need this Wiles kid to give everybody else a chance." Fifth place went to Moroney's Harley-Davidson & Honda/Content Control's Bryan Smith, the former Formula USA National Dirt Track Champion charging from 10th place all the while nursing a broken ankle. "The restarts really helped me," Smith said. "I made up a couple spots on the starts. I just kept working and going after it. Maybe some guys got tired, but I didn't. My ankle was slowing me down a little in turns three and four. I wasn't really paying much attention to it because I was busy racing with Aj. [Eslick]. That was fun. He left some rubber on me, and I left some rubber on him." KK Motorcycle Supply/F&S Harley-Davidson's Eslick finished a fine sixth place, with Bartels' HarleyDavidson/TNT Harley.com's Shaun Russell seventh, followed by Bigelow and Saddlemen/Lancaster HarleyeN Davidson's jared Mees.
