Sunday's final podium had Ward (center) in the top spot for the fourth time of the weekend, with Ganarata (left) in second, and Fillmore (right) in third. beginning of the year I was making mistakes and falling, but still had real fast lap times. I was doing bad in the points, but now I'm up to third. If I can keep going like this, it should make for a really good year." Nicoll was fourth, with Anderson fifth. Kunzel ended up sixth, with Thiebault seventh, Carlson eighth and Drew ninth. Chisum rounded out the top 10. "It turned out to be a big weekend," Ward said. "It's unfortunate for Doug that he got hurt, and hopefully he's back soon. Then Kunzel had a bad weekend, so that gave me a good points lead. With a couple of rounds left, it's comforting but it's not over, because you can get hurt pretty easily in this sport." Fillmore walked away in third with 122 points, ahead of a tie between Anderson and Carlson on I02. Nicoll is in a tie for sixth with Thiebault, on 101. The injured Henry is eighth on 87, with Drew in ninth on 80 and Trachy with 75 in 10th. SUPERMOTO UNLIMITED After a restart, pole sitter David Baffeleuf was bounced off the concrete and couldn't continue. The third start was wild, as the KTM 525-mounted Darryl Atkins held the lead. Troy Herfoss' Husky held down second. Meanwhile, Micky Dymond crashed his KTM 6 lOin turn two and took three others with him. Dymond restarted in last place, some five seconds behind the back of the pack. Herfoss, meanwhile, passed Atkins early, but Atkins returned the favor almost immediately. At the end of the first lap, the order read Atkins, Herfoss, Calvin Andlovec, Chris Cooksey, Robert Loire, Alex McElyea, Vincent Rivet, Travis Marks, Cole Walsdorf and Mike Bergman. By the third lap, Dymond had charged up to ninth and Herfoss was pressuring Atkins for the lead, taking the spot on the front straight. Dymond continued his charge through the pack and ended up a remarkable third. By this point, Herfoss and Atkins had some 10 seconds on the pack, with Loire working his way past Cooksey and Andlovec for fourth place. McElyea was on the move and grabbed fifth, with Cooksey sixth and Andlovec seventh. On the final lap, Marlks grabbed eighth from Rivet. Walsdorf and Craig Mason closed out the top 10. Herfoss ended up with his first-ever AMA Supermoto win. On the second day of Unlimited racing, it was Dymond nailing the holeshot, but both Herfoss and Atkins motored around him in the second corner. Behind Dymond, it was Walsdorf, McElyea, Marks, justin Ross, Loire, Cooksey, Mike Bergman and joel Tarquin battling all race long for position. Herfoss and Atkins distanced themselves from Dymond, while Marks was able to get by McElyea. Cooksey, who had already passed Tarquin and Monte Frank, was pressuring Bergman heavily, but in the end it was Bergman who prevailed. At the finish, it was Herfoss - barely over Atkins for his second win in two days. Dymond ended up a distant third, while Walsdorf and McElyea rounded out the top five. SUPERMOTO LITES The first of two Supermoto Lites races on Saturday belonged to Graves Motorsports Yamaha's Mark Burkhart, with Two Brothers Racing Kawasaki's joel Albrecht taking a strong second, ahead of Brandon Currie, who was also on a Kawasaki KX250F. On Sunday, it was more of the same, with Burkhart running away from the field while lapping up to 15th position. The real race was the battle for second between Currie and Albrecht. The pair of Kawasaki KX250F riders battled hard for most of the race, but a questionable move by Albrecht, who nearly ran Currie into the hay bales as he leaned on him, gave him second. Currie finished third. eN AMA SUPERMOTO CHAMPIONSHIP COPPER MOUNTAIN, COLORADO RfSULTS: AUGUST 20·21, 2005 (ROUNDS 5·8 OF 12) Saturday SUPERMOTO ROUND 5, I. Jeff Want (Hon); 2.
