Vet X Summer Series Round 4: Glen Helen Raceway Pork Swinfard Secures Summer Series Finale Win By STEVE EMTER SAN BERNARDINO, CA, AUG. 7 T he Vet X racers capped off their Summer Series at Glen Helen Raceway Park. The summer sun bearing down on the track came into play, as the temperatures heated up as hot as the competition. The track staff were kept busy keeping water down on the track and kept it in top shape to keep the competition on track. More than 230 riders came out to claim positions in the final points for the series. Josh Brewer claimed the first spot in the 28-35 Novice-class points for the series, barely edging out Patrick Lopez. The two riders ended the series tied in points, with Brewer taking the championship by virtue of having higher finishing positions. Brewer came into the race trailing Lopez in points, but he was able to put in 7-2 finishes to better Lopez's 9-7 tally for the day. In the 43-49 Beginner class, Yamaha rider James Gusman put in a I-I performance to take his second overall win of the series, giving him a big lead in the points to take the series championship. Meanwhile, Mike Perry had consistent front-of-the-pack finishes in the series to take second place in the series points. Derrick Swinfard was on a tear in the 28-36 Intermediate class at Glen Helen. On the first lap of moto one, he was onry able to maintain fourth place, with Vertical/No FearfToo Tech/Kenda-backed Steve Pfaff and Honda rider Jonathan Rhodes right in front of him. Suzuki rider Ross Robinson was Sitting in first place. Over the next (WO laps, Swinfard was able to pass Pfaff and Rhodes to take second, with Robinson still pulling a lead. Swinfard charged his way up to Robinson, and after three laps he was able to get by the leader to take the lead. Pfaff took the third spot. Moto two saw Pfaff try to redeem his third· place finish by charging off the line, and he was in second place as they came around for the first lap, with Rhodes in first. On lap two, Pfaff got around Rhodes and was then able to hold off the other riders to take the second-mota win. Behind him, Swinfard and Rhodes were battling and trading second spot back and forth. Swinfard was able to take second, with Rhodes chasing him in for third. The overall went to Swinfard with 1-2 finishes, with second being claimed by Pfaff (3-1), and third went to Rhodes (4-3).
