MOONSHINE 100 MEMPHIS, MISSOURI RESULTS: AUGUST 7, 2005 (ROUND 6) PRO OVERALL: I. Justin Williamson (Yam); 2. Shane Watts (KTM); 3. Brian Garrahan (S02); 4. Chris Bach (KTM); 5. Dustin Gibson (KTM); 6. Allan Westerfteld (Kaw); 7. Jamie Driskell (Yam); 8. Tracy Bachman (Hon). My 77 OWN RACE Chris Robertson DNF Early front-runner Chris Robertson found himself between a tree and a hard spot before calling it a day with bike problems. "I got a good start, tucked in right behind Jimmy [Jarrett]," Robertson said. "He and I got hooked up. It was pretty dusty. I was glad I was in second; I could just imagine if I was back further. We probably gapped Justin [Williamson] maybe 15 or 20 seconds, then I went down right behind Jimmy in a super-tight section. Justin got by me, and Shane [Watts] got by me. I was cruising behind Shane and made another mistake, got stuck in between two trees. It was so tight, and I didn't have anywhere to go. I came around the first lap in seventh, so I started pushing but wrecked and busted my back brake caliper off." 91 Dustin Gibson 5th OMA first-timer Dustin Gibson, from Tennessee, got talked into racing in Missouri at the urging of Allan Westerfield. "They say these aren't as fast [as GNCCs]," Gibson said. "I think they had something to work with here - a little fast [stuff] and a little tight - so there was a little bit of both. It was really fun, [except] I had a stock [KTM 250 SXF], and it kind of beat me up [with the motocross suspension]. Plus, [it has the stock] small tank. I had to stop after the second lap because I wasn't sure how far I could go." The 2005 AMA (hampions will be aowned 01 Rood Abta:~. !he SIIZIIII""'" Siowlto... One of the things daddy Shane and mum Carrie considered was getting earplugs or something to protect her ears. They solved that by having the girls hang out in the cab of Shane's box van and haVing the NC going. Definitely more comfortable for the newborn than hanging out in the 90-degree heat while Dad got second place. Asked how having the baby had changed his approach to racing, Watts answered, "I took a couple months off in the middle of the year with no training when the baby was due," he said. "Now, I've just started my training program the last week or two. Today's part of my training program, getting ready for the last few races of the year to put a strong effort in. I was real happy with the way things went." As a part of his outreach to kids and promoting family values, Pro racer Tracy Bachman gave away a brand-new kids helmet, signed by most of his fellow Pros. Provided by Storm Lake Honda in Iowa, Brianna Hahn was the lucky winner. Bachman plans to hold a similar free rame for kids at the remaining rounds. • SUZUKI nnm -'--- ----------------------------------------o YESI Start my subscription immediately to Cycle News. "I've really got to hand it to Shane [Watts] and Jimmy [Jarrett] and those guys. They've really taught me a lot," he said. "That's where a lot of the credit goes. My uncle [and mechanic, Chris Williamson], he does an excellent job. I have a lot of guys helping me out in the pits and stuff, which I've got to thank everybody there." _ _ o o o _ Every wee).. for two years (100 issues for $80.00) Six months second class (25 issu('S for $23.00) This is it Q New Subscription o Rene\"i11 ...J Please bill me 1 payment oj $45 Send t o : ~Inc.
