---------------August 1-6, 2005 MOTOCROSS ~ AMNAir Nautiques Amateur National Motocross Championships presented by Amsoil to come from last to second to win. I just made a mistake and fell. I was definitely pushing hard, and it's one of the biggest wins of my career." Dungey was notably low on confidence after blOWing that first moto, but he struck back to win the Modified title. "The last two laps I was going so slow," Dungey said. "I couldn't believe I was going to do it. I was just thinking that two years ago I was just getting top-lOs." Suzuki's Nico Ini was the biggest minicycle name, but bike problems in the second 8Scc (14-1 S) moto prevented him from winning that title over Les Smith. Ini ruled the Supermini class, though, despite a spectacular crash in the final moto. The 85cc (12-13) races were stacked, but only one rider, Barcia, was able to ride consistently in every one of them, going 3I-I and 2-1-2 in his motos to win two titles. For his efforts, Barcia was given the AMA Youth Horizon Award. "I just wanted to win here really bad," eN Barcia said. LORmA LYNN'S RANcH HURRICANE M!us, TENNESSEE RESULTS: AUGUST Championship earlier in the week. He needed to win a third-moto showdown with Team Green's Scott Simon, but a huge crash on the first lap knocked him out of the chase - literally. Simon went 1-2-3 to win his second career title. One rider who probably could have taken wins in the A class (but is completely legal to ride the B class) is Hill. He simply dominated the 12Scc B Stock and Modified classes on his YZ2S0Fs, hauling five moto wins and two titles back to Oregon. The best racing of all might have taken place in the 12Scc (12-15) classes. Only 125cc two-strokes were eligible to compete in a nod to the relative youth, size and experience (or lack thereof) of the racers in this class. Minnesota's Ryan Dungey had the 36 AUGUST 24,2005 • first moto win of the week in hand until he crashed with just half of a lap to go. KTM's Zach Osborne and Team Green's Austin Stroupe became the favorites from there. Stroupe got out front of Osborne early in moto three, and he just had to stay where he was, while Matt Lemoine went on to win the moto. But Stroupe crashed and fell back to seventh, putting Osborne in position for the title. But then Stroupe put on an incredible charge from the back in the waning moments and, improbably, caught Osborne as the two-lap board came out. The battle was on, and Stroupe made the pass and won the title in the most dramatic fashion possible. "I've learned to never give up," Stroupe said. "I've won titles before where I've had CYCLE NEWS 1-6, 2005 105 (12-15) SUPERMINI: I. Nico lui (Suz); 2. Trent Pugmire (Hon); 3. Les Smith (Hon); 4. Derek Rogers (Suz); 5. Briefly••• Continued from poge 35 the Stock Championship the next day, but it was not to be. "I got up in the morning, and I couldn't even ride my bike," Albertson said. "So I was just hoping that adrenaline would take over when it was time to race, and it did. I did the best I could and got third." But first in the moto went to Honda rider Jase Lewis, from Georgia, who progressed toward his first career title with 3-2-1 scores. As usual, Jessica Patterson and Sarah Whitmore had a classic battle in the Women's class. In mota two, Whitmore took the lead on the last lap, and then Patterson crashed. Then she tangled with another rider just as she was picking up her bike, and she finished ninth. Whitmore won the title and threw down an emotional podium speech. "Last year I had Ebstein Barr [chronic fatigue syndrome)," Whitmore said. "I couldn't even ride my bike for 10 minutes without passing out. The second moto we had a good battle, and I'm glad I won that to show I can go fast, because ever since that mota, I was so nervous. I was shaking the whole time. That has to be the slowest anyone has ever rode to win a championship. I hit neutral twice on the first lap. I was riding so tight. I was scared of crashing, because this means so much to me." The 65cc classes were swept by KTMs, with Jacob Hayes, Brandon Mays and Max Tannenbaum taking the titles. Tannenbaum's Stock (7-9) class was the wildest, as he put together solid 3-4-10 scores despite some crashes to win the title. Florida's Adam Cianciarulo came inta the race injured, but he still pulled out a 50cc Championship. Mark Worth swept all three motos in his 50ce class, and Austin McKee won the Pee Wee class. 85 (14-15) MODIFIED: I. Les Smith (Han); 2. Drew Gosselaar (Suz); 3. Kyle Cunningham (Kaw); 4.
