Enough Already Is it just me or is anybody else getting tired of all the complaining in regards to the U.S. GP? I think people should be grateful that we are fortunate enough to once again have a Grand Prix. Sure it wasn't perfect, but I have no doubt that it will improve. Traffic? Sure there was traffic, lots of traffic, but that will improve over time as well. Once, at the Italian GP in Mugello, the team mechanics in a van in front of us had no choice but to get out and walk, as they had a lot of work to do on the motorcycles and walking was much faster than sitting in the dead·stopped traffic. Sure there were problems with security personnel at laguna. I had some trouble myself, but that too will get better with time. In short, people need to stop the endless complaining and perhaps offer some solutions to make it better for us all, and in the meantime give thanks to people like Gill Campbell, Wayne Rainey, and countless others, many of who are volunteers, and above all, be thankful to once again have Grand Prix motorcycle racing in America. Joe Fenech via the Internet Kudos to Burrito I would just like to take this opportunity to give a big hand to Gene Romero and his staff at the West Coast Flat Track Series. My family and I attended his event at Castle Rock Race Park on August 6, and it was affordable, exciting and run in a timely manner. It was one of the best-run programs I have ever seen. I was extremely proud of the way being a racer has obViously taught Mr. Romero how to put on a good show for the fans, and a safe one for the riders. At every point during which an accident occurred, he was promptly on the scene checking on things. He has also learned a great deal over the years about'dealing with fans. On that note, I wish to thank him for signing my copy of On Any Sunday. I hope the AMA will follow Romero's lead and once more race in the Pacific Northwest. We desperately long for a National. I understand that the unfortunate eruption of Mt. St. Helens may have been the undoing for Castle Rock holding a National, but The World of Outlaws comes to the Gray Harbor County Fairgrounds in Elma every year, and there's Skagit Speedway in Alger a three-tenths-mile track with a wonderful facility. Please don't give up on us - we would welcome a National anytime. The Jorgenson Family Auburn, WA The Plight of Bubba Anyone who decides to talk bad about James Stewart, as did William Parker (a.k.a. 6 "Clearly both men love our sport and care about its history and its future." "cheap watch"), clearly needs to be parked in a turn themselves. If you have seen the incident, you can clearly tell its just one of those racing deals. I respect Stewart's aggressive but at times wild style. At least he earns his ride by not just pulling over and allowing Ricky Carmichael to pass him, unlike the top 10 guys on blue and red bikes. Carmichael has won the race before the gate drops. Maybe someone should show him an elbow, brake-check him... something to get him on edge but nothing to cause injury. If you have ever lined up on a gate for a race, you know that incident was not intentional, but just purely getting it and wanting a win. Wow, what a concept. Kenny Sievers via the Internet The Plight of Bubba II I just heard about Bubba Stewart getting hurt again while practicing at Glen Helen, and he'll apparently miss at least the next couple of Nationals. I've been a fan of this young man ever since he turned Pro several years ago, but I have to say that he is rapidly approaching the point of becoming a joke along the line of Travis Pastrana - i.e., a rider who can't keep it on two wheels Without crashing and injuring himself. Bubba is a fast rider - probably the fastest next to Ricky Carmichael - but it's apparent that he can't begin to keep RC's pace for an entire moto without riding over his head and crashing. I admire Bubba giving it all that he has, but Kawasaki needs to help this young guy get control of himself before """,,-he sustains some really serious, possibly careerthreatening injuries. The reality is that no one riding today can consistently match RC's pace for an entire moto not in outdoor motocross. Bubba's best chance to beat RC will be in Supercross, which runs at a slower pace, in a much shorter timeframe and doesn't require the same level of phYSical conditioning as riding two 35-minute motos in outdoor motocross. My son and I just did a street ride up to Washougal to take in the National there and were disappointed not to see Bubba ri de. W e AUGUST 24,2005 • CYCLE NEWS plan to ride down to Glen Helen next month for the final outdoor National and hope to see Bubba riding again there. Lee Bunyard via the Internet Great Scotts! I know I can't be the only reader who picks up the latest issue and turns directly to the last two pages. I look forward to reading each Archives article Scott Rousseau brings to my door. (I'm always a fan of Ron Wood and #44.) The Michael Scott penned In the Paddock is always a great read and gives the reader the pulse of the Grand Prix scene that can't be found anywhere else. Issue #32 was a great example of their best efforts. Clearly both men love our sport and care about its history and its future. My hat is off to them. Speaking of hats, how about bringing back those CN painters hats we all wore in the 70s? I'll buy the first box and give them away at the races! Craig Anderson Big Bear Lake, CA More Kudos Thank you for a great weekly periodical. And thank you for printing all views from your readers. And kudos to Jane Williamson for her succinct comments regarding SCRAMP and the MotoGP! I just hope she mailed them to Ms. Campbell as well. Mike Slavin Son Diego, CA
