AMA 2S0cc National Motocross Series Presented by FMF SPRING CREEK MOTOCROSS PARK MIUVlW, MINNESOTA RESULTS: AUGUST 14, 200S (ROUND 9 OF 12) Ernesto Fonseca (24) edged out teammate Travis Preston for third. Preston, who did not make himself available for comment afterward, with fourth overall. For Fonseca, it was his second podium in a row after finishing third at Washougal two weeks before. In the meantime, Wey claimed one of his best finishes in awhile, posting a very consistent 5-5 finish for fifth overall. "The opportunity for a podium was there today, but in the second moto, I didn't get the start I needed," Wey said. "I didn't get a very good start in the first moto, either, but I passed four or five guys through those sand whoops, so I was pumped about that. The line smoothed out for the second moto, so that advantage wasn't there for me. I've been improving every week, and I feel good about·today. It would be nice to go home with a podium, but 5-5 is one of my best finishes all year." Vuillemin ended the day with sixth overall after 8-4 moto finishes, and sentimental favorite John Dowd, riding a priva- 20 MOTa I: I. Ricky Carmichael (Suz); 2. Kevin Windham (Hon); 3. He had a lot of momentum heading into the event, and after two consecutive years of running the table, his competition is getting tired of getting hammered. At the press conference after the event, however, Carmichael perhaps offered his competition a ray of hope for the future. "The biggest thing I wanted to accomplish this year was a Supercross title," Carmichael said. "If I hadn't of won it, I would have felt there was some unfinished work to do. But that is why I am having fun. There is no pressure on me now. I got that, and it's done. I feel that what I have accomplished is good, and I don't feel there is anything else to accomplish. I know the end is coming, [and] I won't sign another contract after my Suzuki contract is up." CN AUGUST 24, 2005 • CYCLE NEWS (Suz); 27. Jacob M.....ck (Han); 28. Marl< EastwoOd (Han); 29.
