Fabien Foret and Katsuaki Fujiwara. Alessio Corradi was the top Ducati finisher in seventh, ahead of local wildcard Craig Jones. "It was a very good race, and Michel [Fabrizio] was in very good form today and pushed me all the way," Charpentier said. "He was very fast when he was behind me, but, whenever he got in front, he slowed the pace and was gesturing for me to get back in front. I had no problems today, and I was able to push a bit harder towards the end to make things a bit more comfortable. It's another complete weekend, with fastest lap, pole position and the race win. It just shows how good the bike is and how hard the team has worked." A sharp start from Curtain saw him in ninth at the first split, with Charpentier making the best of pole to lead Fabrizio and Chambon. Such was the pace of Charpentier and Fabrizio that he shot forward by 1.2 seconds after a couple of laps, The bigger guns of the 2005 championship were joined by Jones, who was fourth at one stage until relegated by Foret, who had a private battle in the early laps. Fabrizio passed Charpentier on lap three but was relegated almost immediately. After seven laps, the warring factions of Charpentier and Fabrizio, plus Curtain and Foret, had made up two fighting corps, as Jones dropped to fifth and then sixth behind Chambon. Curtain, stung by his bad start, had the pace to get clear of Foret, making some progress to the leading duo at almost a second a lap. With I0 laps down and I3 to go, a fantastic five-rider battle between JaVier Fores, Karl Crutch low, Robbin Harms, Tatu Lauslehto and Matthieu Lagrive may only have been for 10th place, but it was as intense as any, especially when the fighting and defensive lines shown by the leader of the pack brought another few riders into the freight train. Curtain's progress at the top was an impressive thing to watch, as his teammate Broc Parkes was fighting alongside the SL Ducati of Corradi, for eighth-place overall. Over the halfway mark, it was Charpentier, Fabrizio, Curtain, Foret, Chambon, FUjiwara, Jones, Corradi, Parkes and Crutchlow. Fabrizio made a successful play for the lead on lap I 7, with Charpentier looking behind to check where Curtain was. Foret and Chambon were tangling on lap 19, with Chambon looking ready to pass to earn fourth. Up front, Charpentier went back into the lead, but in his private war with Fabrizio, the only casualties were themselves, as Curtain drew level again. With three to go, Curtain could make no progress, and Charpentier started to turn up the wick as he battled away to a .60 advantage, with tires sliding and the tail stepping out. He duly took his sixth win of the year by 0.98 seconds, with Fabrizio second and Curtain third. Behind, Chambon took advantage of Foret. FUjiwara was sixth, with Corradi, Jones, Lagrive and Crutchlow in the top 10. Foret, a slow-starting Tom Turnstall, Harms, Lauslehto and Stigefelt finished off the points scoring. As Charpentier got off his bike to congratulate the young thorn in his side, he knew that another race could see him win the overall championship, and that could come at. Assen - the home track of Ten Kate Racing. Charpentier now leads Fujiwara by a whopping 190 points to FUji's I 16, with Curtain third on 109. The fourth-placed Foret is separated by only three points from his teammate Fabrizio, with Foret on 8S and Fabrizio on 83. eN BRANDS HATCH CIRCUIT BRANDS HATCH, GREAT BRITAIN REsuus: AUGUST 7, 2005IRoUND 8 Of 12) SUPERPOLE: l.
