PHOTO BV CLAY LIGHT CMC Pac West Motocross Nationals Round 4: Pacific Raceways Abrigo Strikes Again! By CLAY LIGHT SEATTlf, WA, JUNE 12 ashington's Ryan Abrigo was a consistent W finisher in many of the main events dur- KTM-mounted Pete Sanna" in the second moto, and garnered fourth overall, just ahead of Garhen Caner (7-5). Abrigo next captured both Open Pro moto wins, again finishing ahead of McConahy and Crater, but his toughest challenges would come in the '1Sec Pro class. Abrigo suffered from poor starts - something that plagued him ing this year's AHA 125cc Western Supercross Series. Even those performances, which included a couple of top-10 finishes, couldn't earn the rider from Snohomish a full-time outdoor National ride. So Abrigo figured he'd make some pretty good money racing the CMC Pac West Nationals. Well, "pretty good" has been an understatement at the first four rounds of the series; on this day, Abrigo won the 125cc, 2S0cc and Open Pro classes and pocketed more than $1000 for his efforts. The Honda rider first captured the overall "I got bad starts all day long," the 21-yearold Fly/Dunlop/Everett Power Sports-backed Abrigo said. "I just couldn't buy a start. Luckily, I was able to work my way to the (ront and win in the 17-rider 250cc Pro class. Tracy ride at my own pace." Johnson, who finished in Abrigo's shadow in all McConahy took advantage of the misfortunes of both Simpson and Wilson, the second-place finishers in the two motos, to net second overall with a 3-3 tally, followed by Wilson (8-2), Jake Cartwright (6-4) and Crater, who trailed Abrigo, Wilson, McConahy, Cartwright and Oregon's Pete Sannan in moto two and went 4-6 for fifth overall. Alaska's 8en Lamay and Idaho's Sam DeAtley have had some dose racing in the Intermediate classes. On this day, DeAtley won the 8efore The Hill and 250cc classes and three classes at the previous round, was missing. but eastern Washington's Nick McConahy came up big in Johnson's absence and placed second to Abrigo In all three Pro classes. Abrlgo and McConahy were clearly head and shoulders above the rest of the competition. and placed one-two in both motos. Greg Crater placed third in moto one, but a 13th-place finish in moto two dropped him back several spots overall. Local rider Michael Simpson (5-3) completed the top three overall. Yamaha-mounted Shon Wilson from Sumner, Washington, placed fnth, behind throughout the entire weekend - but he eventually worked his way through the pack and, at the completion of the day, went six for six in mota wins. placed second to Lamay in the 12Scc class. Lamay also snared the overall Schoolboy win. Yamaha Dealers Series Round 2: Glen Helen Raceway Park SAN BERNARDINO, CA, JUNE 12 arred Browne continued to be the IocaJ Intermediate rider to beat as the second round of the Yamaha Dealers Series was staged at Glen Helen Raceway Pari<, with another huge turnout of 587 riders. His efforts helped hoist his West Coast Cycles Shop to runner-up status among the dealers for the meeting. but perennial champs John Burr Cycles outgunned all 29 shops in points (or the second event in a row to increase its lead. J Browne went undefeated in both 125cc and 2S0cc B action. His toughest challenge came from lanky Jeff Loop in the initial 250cc banle, when "Jet" Browne sped his Suzuki to the holeshot, only to see Loop's JBC-backed Honda squeeze by in tum two. They rode that way until late in the mota, when they exchanged the lead several times before Browne prevailed. '" always learn something when I'm behind Jarred," said Loop. "Two weeks ago, I'd trail him by four seconds at the end, but now I'm right there on him." Browne, however, kicked out the jams from that point on and gave himself more breathing room in his remaining motos. Loop did get a taste of victory when he swept both motos of the Four-Stroke Intermediate class. In the Expert portions of the program, a handful of riders seemed to share the spodight. 52 PACFIC IlAClWAY SUnu, WASHINGTON REsws: JUNI 12, 2005 (ROUND 4) 'IW (0-6): I. Ryan Bururen (Cob); 2.
