Briefly..• Riders Crowned at Ponca City N ico lui, Jimmy Albertson and Ryan Villopoto were the big winners at the 30th annual Ponca City Grand National Championships, held at Jack Blevins Motocross Park in Ponca City, Oklahoma, July 24-30. The SuzukiIPR2/Dunlop/Maxima/Fox Shocks-sponsored Izzi made his Oklahoma visit a memorable one by going undefeated through all 10 of his motos, en route to titles in the 8Scc Stock (14-16), 8Scc Modified (14-16), 85cc Open Modified and Super Mini (0-16) divisions. The Yamaha-mounted Albertson, of Billings, Missouri, demonstrated that he is Am Pro Yamaha's Bany Hawk won the seventh round of the AMA National Championship Hare Scrambles Series in Logan, Ohio, July 31. Raines finished ahead of teammate and series points leader Jason Raines, Kawasaki's Chuck Woodford, Suzuki rider Brian Garrahan and KTM's Robbie Jenks. Raines leads the charts with 147 points, followed by Woodford with 119. Garrahan is third with 99 points. KTM Racing manager and reigning AMA Supermoto Unlimited Champion Kurt Nicoll told Cycle News that the recent 24percent share purchase of KTM by Polaris will have little affect on KTM's racing activity in the short term. "Long term, we'll have to see where it goes, but for now there will be no immediate effect on the racing program," Nicoll said while attending the AMA Supermoto round at USA Intemational Raceway in Shawano, Wisconsin, on July 30. one of the fastest Intermediate riders on the planet by claiming wins in the 125cc Stock Intermediate, 250cc Four-Stroke Non-Pro, 125cc Modified Intermediate and 450cc Non-Pro classes. Villopoto, who will turn Pro after the Lorena Lynn's Amateur Motocross Nationals next week, added three titles to his resume: 125cc Modified Pro, I25cc 5tock Pro and 250cc Stock Pro. In the smaller classes, 6-year-old Rookie White, of Winchester, California, won the Pee Wee 50cc Stock (0-6) Championship, while Arizona's Mark Worth claimed Pee Wee 50cc Modified (0-6) division title. Joey Dunlop of Dallas, Texas, and Zach Cummins of Westlake Village, California, butted heads in the Pee Wee Stock (7-8) class, with Dunlop claiming the title when Cummins suffered a poor start. Levi Hall put his KTM on top of the box in the junior Cycle Modified (9-11) class after moving up from third place on the first lap of the runoff to pass justin Summers of Florida for the win. The Ponca City event, one of the longest-running Amateur National Championship series in the country, celebrated its 30th anniversary with perfect conditions and some of the best racing ever at the facility.
