The annual AMA National Hare Scrambles at the Dutch
Sport Park facility traditionally holds a two-day event, featuring racing on both Saturday and Sunday. The
fonnat on Saturday includes mini-racing for the youngsters and a two-hour race for the adults, including a twoman team race. The team race is normally contested by
some of the Pro racers, who are allowed to team up and
check out the track. This year, some of the teams included
Chuck Woodford with Josh McLevy, and Mike Lafferty
with Robbie Jenks.
Robbie Jenks got on the podium in third.
Justin Williamson took a hard.fought fourth.
In his first race
as a Pro, Aaron
Wegner finished
sixth.
Parts Unlimited was on site with area representative
Corey Partin, who brought out lots of product and
some giveaway items for the fans and competitors. As
Parlin is a previous Michigan Hare Scrambles state champion, he decided to scrape up a partner and try his hand
at the team race. "Man, I'm out of shape," Parlin joked. "I
think I lost fIVe pounds and one of my extra chins."
Despite the heavy rains that fell on the racecourse,
most of the competitors commented that the track was
actually pretty good toward the latter part of the race. "I
remember a few years back when it rained like crazy
here, and the course ended up great," Jason Raines said.
"It's amazing how qUickly this place recovers from a
downpour."
This race served as a points-paying race for both the
AMA Districts 14 and 15 Hare Scrambles Championship
Series. The defending AMA District 14 Michigan champion, Travis Tudethout, had a day he would rather forget.
After fouling a plug on the starting line and losing two
minutes on the field, his bike began sputtering on the
second lap. He decided to pull off the track and save his
bike from any more mechanical damage.
