IIoW Springs was the fim part of the two-part "western
swing" of the Mkhelin/WERA National Challenge Series.
The action kicked off with Open Superstock, with Mark Junge
and Dale Kieffer fighting for the lead. By the third lap, Michael
Beck came up to join the party, first getting by Junge and then
running wheel to wheel with Kieffer. Diving into the first comer
on the last lap, Beck made his move and went on to victory.
J.B. Layman started the day on a great note, as he shadowed
Tony PaIarie for seven laps and then grabbed the lead to win the A
Superstock NoYice final. Jon Lawson was with this fleeing
twosome until he ran off the track in tum nine, returning to the
race further back in the pack, but he charged back to third. Nkk
Scoggins ran a solid race in the 600cc Novice Superstock final,
leading with a 17-second advantage over Layman and Daniel Shaff.
In the 7S0cc Novice Superstock final, Layman shadowed the
leader, Palane, but came up short at the line, settling for second.
Chris Siglin held a good advantage in the 600cc Expert
Superstock final, but Beck was on the charge, moving from sixth
at the start to third and closing at the halfway point. After
overtaking Nicky Moore, Beck had to settle for second. In the
7S0cc Superstock Expert Iinal, Tray Batey wasted no time
charging into the lead, and he built a fIVe-second advantage by
the third lap. Siglin ran a good second, with Cory Eaton third.
In the 600cc Expert Superbike final, Josh Herrin shadowed
Moore for the last four laps, looking for an opening. Driving into
tum eight on the last lap, Herrin tried the inside, looking for a
way past, but there was no opening, so he drafted by to the flag,
picking up the win in a photo finish. It was two Suzuki 750s
running up front in the 750cc Expert Superbike final, with David
Siminski and Jason Caldwell coming in one and two.
Scoggins took his Kawasaki to the lead and never looked back
as he took the victory in the 600cc Superbike final, leaving
Layman and Ron Gallegos to contest second. PaIarie and Layman
came back in the 750cc Novice Superbike race and ran together
for eight laps; at the end, Palarie held on for victory.
Things got hot in Formula One, as Batey stretched his lead to
three seconds after two laps. but Kieffer was on the gas and
closing, with Beck third. On the third lap, Ben Thompson and
Eaton went down In tum lour, bringing out the red flag. On the
restart, David Weber took the lead, with Kieffer and Batey
following. Beck moved up to make it a four-way battle for the
lead. Kieffer snatched the lead at the crossed flags, with Beck
moving up. Beck got by Weber, and it became a two-way scrap
for the lead. Beck shadowed to the last lap and stole the victory
by four-tenths of a second.

regon's Josh Hill continued to steamroll the competition at
the CMC Pac West Motocross Nationals, as the 15-year-old
bested the mark he set at the opening round (With fIVe class wins)
by winning six classes overall at round two of the series. Hill was
perlect at bat, going 12 for 12 aboard a pair of Yamahas. Hill replicated his leat of the day belore with his 125cc, 250cc, Open,
Before The Hill and Four-Stroke Intennediate-c1ass wins, and then
exceeded that with a win in the Schoolboy class on Sunday for his
sixth victory of the day at Horn Rapids ORV Park in Richland.
Hill's first win on the day came in the combined Open
Pro/Over 2S Pro/Before The HilVOver 2S Intermediate contest,
in which he was contesting the Before The Hill class. While Hill
did snare a win in that class, Hill couldn't stop most of the Pro
riders as he had the previous day, and trailed Open Pro rider Ryan
Abrigo and Over 25 Pro-class winner Dan Moore in moto one.
Nick McConahy bested the field in moto two, but a thirdplace mota-one finish in the Open Pro class left him second
overall, behind Abrigo, who went 1-2 lor his first 01 three overall
Pro-class victories. McConahy went 3-1 to finish ahead of
Oregon's Anthony Cerruti (2-3). Hill captured the Before The
Hill win, followed by Idaho's Sam DeAtley (2-3), local rider
Brandon Ritchie (4-4), and the rest of the field. Ryan Terlecki,
who had also fared well at round one, scored his lone overall
victory of the day by trading wins with Moore in the Over 25 Pro
class to lead Moore (1-2) and Joe Brockway (3-3).
KTM and Yamaha-mounted Brad Frace rode exceptionally
well on the high desert, snaring a trio of overaJl wins. While that
feat was overshadowed by Hill's six victories. the rider from
Boring, Oregon, had a pretty decent day himself. Fellow Beaver
State rider Chris Alldredge did all he could to put the stops to
Frace in the 6Scc Open class, including winning the first mota,

but Frace won out in amato-two shootout to garner win
number one on the day. Devin Harriman completed a top-three
finish for the KTM marque via 5-3 placings. Frace would also
capture the overall 6Scc (9-1 I) and BScc (9-1 I) victories.
Spokane's Jason Potter got the jump on Hill and the rest 01
the 250cc Intermediate-class field in both motos, but it didn't
take long lor Hill to work his way past his fellow Yamaha rider in
either mota and post his sixth and final double mota trouncing of
his competition on this day. Oregon's Erik Meusling, a three-class
contestant, used consistent 3-3 finishes to trail Hill overall, but
finished ahead 01 DeAtley (2-4), Cole Jackson (5-5) and Kyle
Stauffer (4-7). Potter trailed Hill in moto two, but a moto one
14th-place finish lelt him seventh overall.
