PHOTO BY CLAY LIGHT CMC Pac West Motocross Nationals Round I: Horn Rapids ORV Park Abrigo, Terlecki Draw First Blood! Bv CLAV LIGHT RICHLAND, WA, JUNE 4 urrent and former AMA National riders Ryan Abrigo and Ryan Terlecki were the Pro-class winners at the opening round of the CMC Pac West Motocross Nationals, held at Horn Rapids ORV Park in eastern Washington, Abrigo, who rode a Honda in three classes, won the 2S0cc and Open Pro classes, while Suzuki-mounted Terlecki netted the overall 125cc and Over 25 Pro-class wins. Suzuki rider Dan Moore grabbed the lead on the opening lap of the first 125cc Pro moto and held it for two laps. Abrigo, who this year holds the National number 86, snatched the lead on the third lap. Terlecki pushed Moore for several laps before making a pass stick on the final lap to overtake Moore and place second, behind Abrigo. Moore, Tony Boughten, first-year Pros Pete Sannan and Adam Metzler, and Nick McConahy rounded out the top seven in the 17-rider field. Boughten darted ahead of the field in the second mota and did a creditable job of holding off challenges from Terlecki, Moore and Abrigo, who was mired midpack at the start but gradually worked his way up to fourth, where he'd finish. While Boughten won the battle, it was Terlecki who took the overall win by virtue of his consistent 2-2 placings, Boughten's 4-1 finishes earned the rider from Arlington, Washington, second overall, ahead of Abrigo (1-4), Moore (3-3) and Metzler (6-5). An equally large field of riders battled for top money and contingencies in the 250cc Pro class, Abrigo executed a nice start and maintained the lead all the way to the finish. McConahy ran second for much of the race and finished in that position, just ahead of Terlecki, the third-place finisher. Heath Robertson, a second~year Pro rider, barely edged Boughten at the finish to net fourth, while Boughten, Anthony Cerruti and Victor Smith completed the top seven. Boughten proved that his second motos were his strong points C by garnering the lead in moto two and keeping the point position all the way to the end. Abrigo kept tabs on Boughten and placed second to the up-and-coming rider, which was good enough for the overall win, after he also earlier captured the Open Pro-class win. Abrigo (1-2), Boughten (5-1), Robertson (4-4), Terlecki (3-5) and Smith (7-6) rounded out the top fIVe overall. Oregon's Josh Hill was also impressive. The 15-year-old from Yoncalla was the cream of the crop in the Intermediate classes and furthered the mark set by both Terlecki and Abrigo by winning fIVe classes on the day - the 125cc, 250cc, Open, Four-Stroke and Before The Hill Intermediate classes - all via I-I sweeps. Hill's win in the I25cc class came well ahead of Washington riders Jason Potter and Michael Simpson. who placed 2-2 and 3-3, respectively. but Hill proved just how fast he is in the opening motas of the day by even beating all of the Pro riders on hand, including the incredibly fast Abrigo.
