and out back, respectively. More aggressive off-road tires with tubes can also be used, but you need to order the slightly different wheels with rim locks. The braking system features a single 305mm disc up front and a 265mm disc out back, and the front caliper features stainless steel lines, but the rear still uses rubber for improved feel. The rear brake pedal has an adjustable spacer that can be set for off-road riding when the rider is standing a lot and wants the lever higher, or for the street when the bend of the leg and angle of the foot require it to be lower. The bike comes fitted with tapered aluminum handleban;, which can be both adjusted and rotated forward and back. The brake and clutch levers can also be adjusted to your preference. The steering radius on the HP2 is excellent with 42 degrees of steering lock to both the left and right. The BMW HP2 impressed me a lot. I was really surprised with the bike's ability to handle legitimate off-road riding conditions. This isn't a bike that is only capable of handling the occasional fire-road: This bike can go almost anywhere. When it comes to high-speed riding, the BMW walks the walk, and the fact that it weighs a full 50 pounds less than the KTM 950 Adventure should make it a good base for a rally racing machine. But for the average Joe who wants a more capable dual-sport with a lot more comfort on the asphalt, this could be the perfect bike, and you won't have to suffer through the vibrations of a single-cylinder on the asphalt. The HP2 comes in the color you see here and nothing more. There are, however, a few optional accessories available for the HP2 including handguards, engine protectors, a transparent cover for the headlight, rear axle protection and a rear-brake pedal-limiting strap that BMW dubbed the "brake snake." The HP2 will be available this fall for a suggested retail price of around $20,000, but the actual price has yet to be released. The bike will be available in limited numbers, so if you really want one, you better start bothering your dealer.
