4 Brian Garrahan Brian Garr.lhan came into the Illinois event with the series points lead and riding well on his new Try One Online/Nor Cal Motorsportssponsored Suzuki. The Californian had made all four of the rounds of the series and consistency had played a part in his position in the standings. However, a mediocre start and first-lap get-<>ff left Garr.ohan completely out of the running in Illinois. "I just had a bad get-off and kind of banged myself up a little," Garrahan said. "By the time I got going again, I'd been passed by a bunch of guys and was pretty much out of the race, so I just put it back in the pits." 15 Charles Mullins 4th Trenton, Ohio's Charies Mullins had one of his best rides to date in Illinois, pariaying a good start into a fourthplace finish. Mullins also won the 20 1-2SOcc class and currendy leads the points in that division. "Off the start, I was fourth behind Uosh] McLevy, [Chuck] Woodford and [Robbie] Jenks," Mullins said. "I made a mistake towards the end of the first lap, and Jason [Raines] got around me. About halfway through the race, I went off into a ravine and got tangled in a vine and couldn't get my bike unstuck. After that, I put on a charge and reeled in Jenks, but by then, 1was too tired to pass him." 5 Doug Blackwell DNF Former two-time National Hare Scrambles Champion Doug Blackwell had a day he'd rather forget. Blackwell discovered a leaky fuel petcock when he arrived at the event and spent the morning making repairs. Then, on the starting line, his throttle assembly broke, and he had just enough time to duct tape it together before the green nag dropped. Blackwell was off the line in fifth. just ahead of Jason Raines, and entered the single track with good momentum. However, the West Virginian threw up a rock and busted his side case near the end of the first lap, effectively ending his day. _:_----------_ Addtm: Phone: _ Gty:----- Cht6405 51ael City Raceway De4mon~ ,Julll 141-17 September 10-11 UnadiHa Valley sports Center New Bertin, NY (607) 965-6784 PA (304) 284-0064 Glen Helen Racewsy POlk San Ilon--.o, CA {llOIll eec>-309O CYCLE NEWS. lillY 27 2005 41
