pbell and Steve Hengeveld
proved to be the best at combining all
aspects of the demanding race to win every
stage along the way, putting them in good
position to retain the number-one plate
for the year.
"Everything went as planned," Campbell
said. "We had a strategy, we stuck to it. We
had a couple obstacles to overcome - flat
tires and whatnot - but all in all, Steve took
the majority of the race and rode like a true
champion and just pulled the lead. So, when
I got on the bike, it was just get the bike
back to him and not make any mistakes."
Indeed they didn't. The duo, aboard
their Precision Concepts/Honda Pro
Oils/HRCA-backed XR650R, made few
mistakes. And what few mistakes they did
make were quickly corrected with little
time lost. So, after 993.6 miles, they
amassed best times on all four days to end
up the overall and Open Pro winners in a
total time of 17 hours and 27 minutes flat.
Their victory moved them into a fairly
comfortable lead in the series points race.
with this being their second consecutive
series win. In addition, they led a Honda
one-two-three sweep with fellow
American Honda pilots Robby Bell and
Kendall Norman the runners-up in a time of
17:44:33, while Mike Childress soloed to
