Lafferty Hot in Michigan Six-time National Enduro Champion Mike Lafferty continued his dominance of the 2005 AMA National Enduro Series by winning the Loose Moose National Enduro in Marquette, Michigan, July 17. The factory-backed KTM rider dropped 43 points, topping Kawasaki's Steve Hatch by two points. Lafferty out-paced the competition by winning four of the enduro's six special test sections, while tying Hatch for the quickest times in the other two. Rounding out the top-five overall was KTM rider David Lykke (53), Yamaha pilot Blair Bersano (S4) and Gas Gas rider John Barber (55). The 8S-mile enduro was run in temperatures near 100 degrees in extremely dusty conditions. "Winning here wasn't so much about going fast as it was about saving energy for the end of the day," Lafferty said. "I got off to the track for World Championship events. "I would say, yes, potentially, World Superbike. But you just never know," he said. MotoGP has an existing contract with Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, Bruggenthies acknowledged. As to any official dialogue between World Superbike and Road America, Bruggenthies said, "I'm sure that Doug [Gonda) has." Gonda's company, Protac, has been retained by the track as an official consultant to Road America. Last week we reported that Samuela de Nardi would be the first woman to ride in the Suzuka Eight-Hour in Japan. Actually, de Nardi will be the first Italian woman to take part in the endurance race when she hits the track with her Aprilia. Seven women have previously raced in the event - two Japanese, two Americans and one Dutch. It's been 10 years since a European woman took part in the race, however, with Dutchwoman Geerie Van Rooyen taking part in 1982. "I am delighted," de Nardi said in a team release. "The Suzuka Eight-Hours is a racing legend, and the chance to take part at just 2 I years of age is a great honor. Aprilia has already asked me to intensify my training to cope with the tough conditions there. At the last European championship meeting in Rijeka, before they confirmed my engagement, the team left me short of petrol in the trials to see if I could push the RSVa few kilometers back to the box, in full leathers and under a blazing sun.
