When Scooler Rider magazine publisher B.J. Strass first conceived an epic scooter ride
from Florida to Maine and back, he grabbed a pair of KYMCO scooters - specifically,
the KYMCO People 2S0 for himself and a Grandvista 250 for his wife, Monica
The Scooler Rider editor conceived of Scoot Commute as a way to promote his
passion for affordable two-wheel travel.
"Scooters," Strass says, "are a practical alternative and, by our riding this great distance, we hope to inspire commuters and travelers to consider scooters as economical, viable transportation options."
Delivery and prep for the trip was done at Strass' local KYMCO dealer, Grandpa's
Cycle Center in Fort Myers, Florida.
Scoot Commute was ridden sans support vehicles, and Strass and his wife camped or
stayed in hostels along the way. The couple chose their route avoiding the interstates,
choosing instead to take the "'ong road," including ferry crossings, winding country
roads, beach-town streets, island-hopping bridges and seldom-used frontage byways.
Along the route, they promoted scooter travel to the local media and also gathered information and photography for future Scooler Rider magazine articles.
