PHOTO BY DOUG KARCHER Western Four-Stroke National MX Series Round 4: Owyhee Motorcycle Club Siebler Solid • Idaho In By DOUG KARCHER BOISE, 10, MAY 14-15 C ole Siebler led an all-Idaho sweep of the Pro Premier class at round four of the Western Four-Stroke National MX Series in Boise. Racing on his home track, the Carl's Cycle Sales/Bike- sellers.com-backed Suzuki rider bested Jake Weimer, who nailed second with a 2-2 finish, and Leighton Lillie, who went 3-5 to round out the podium. The Owyhee Motorcycle Club has hosted the Four-Stroke Nationals for a number of years, and the very physical, old-school track - which featured two sets of steep. deep-sand uphill/downhill sections - always delivers a challenging and eXciting event for racers and spectators alike. Overnight rains made (or near-perfect conditions as the Pro Premier class took to the track for the first of two motos. Weimer fired the opening shot, easily putting his American SuzukVBill's Pipes-backed Suzuki up front, the 17-year-old from nearby Rupert showing the form that helped him top the 2S0F Pro class on Saturday. By the end of the opening lap, another local, Kyle Kubitschuk, had moved into second and was challenging for first. For most of the first mota, he and Weimer swapped leads. As the laps wore down, Kubitschuk was leading, and looking smooth and strong. Then, with just two to go, he lost the front end in deep sand near the top of the steep downhill. By the time he SlOpped tumbling and picked up his bike, much of the field has passed by. Growing tired, Weimer played it safe on his last trip down the big sand hill, unaware that he was being stalked. Running out of time, Siebler made his move in the same spot where Weimer had passed the downed Kubitschuk two laps earlier. "It was a little sketchy, but I made it Slick, luckily," said Siebler, who held on for the last two turns to take the win. Leighton lillie followed Weimer across the line in third. Kubitschuk, who minutes before had looked as though he might have the win in hand, had to settle for 25th. Weimer repeated his holeshot in the second moto, and soon it was the same three Suzuki riders out front. Each took their tum in the lead: first Siebler, then Kubitschuk. Eventually, Siebler made his pass stick, and Kubitschuk appeared to slow, aJlowing Weimer back in, and that's how they finished. Ullie backed up his firstmota third with a fifth in the second stanza for third overall and picked up a few series points on defending champ Corder, whose 6-4 finishes were good for fourth on the day. CN OwYHEE MOTORCYCLE CLUB BOISE, IDAHO RESULTS: MAy 14-15, 2005 (ROUND AHRMA Northwest Regional Vintage Motocross Series Round 2: Willow Creek Motocross Park Row Rules the High Desert! By CLAY LIGHT MADRAS, OR, MAY 14-15 ormer AHRMA National Champion Jim Row marked his return to competition with a pair of overall Expert-class wins at Willow Creek Motocross Park, nestled deep in the canyons of central Oregon. Row, riding a 1973 CZ400, posted wins in the Open and Open Age Expert classes to become one of the few double class winners on the day. Torrential rain the night before the event - and throughout race day - made for some pretty messy race conditions, but that didn't deter those who braved the thunderstorms. Row made the best of the conditions by pilodng his CZ to dual wins in the Open Expert dass. Although he did have tough competition from one of the top Northwest riders in che early 1970s, Rick Poulin, Row shook off Poulin's challenges in both molOs to snare his first of two overall wins. Husqvama rider Cliff Mee replicated Row's mota-win tally by sweeping both Open Intermediate-class motos. Mee, Kevin Peltz, Mike Spratt and Kelly Prociv spent most of both motos battling for the top positions, but Mee was in front at the conclusion of both. Spratt (3-2), also Husqvarna-mounted, placed second overall, followed by Peltz (2-3), Maico rider Tom McDaniel (10-4), and BSA jockey Grant Colder, whose 7-5 placings completed the top fIVe overall. Riding BSA and Penton machinery, Skiver sloshed his way to the overall Classic 125cc, Over 50 and Classic SOOcc Expert-class victories. Best noted for his road-race and TT prowess, Skiver also showcased his exceptiona.l motocross abilities en route to his three wins, aJl of which came via I-I sweeps. Skiver did, though, have tough competition in the Classic I25cc class: Pentonmounted Californian Don Hansen ran in Skiver's shadow for much of the opening mota and, despite contesting separate classes, Hansen beat Skiver to the finish line in that mota; Skiver prevailed in mota two. Honda-mounted Californian Ryan Bast was also among the elite circle of dual-class winners. Bast had CZ rider Terry Bentley to deal with in both Sportsman 250cc Expert motos, but in the end, Bast and his 1973 Honda Elsinore ruled. Husqvarna rider Steve Parker placed third to Bast and Bentley in mota one, but that was about the best his day in that class would go, as he didn't finish mota two. Parker's day, though, wasn't a total wash, as he later came back to win both Over 40 Expert motos, ahead of Tom Bendey (2-3) and Washington's Dirk Murphy (4-2). Norton rider Kelly Shane put in two spirited rides in the Premier Open Twin/Lightweight classes.
