Daniel Sani kept McGrath honest in the 2S0cc Pro main event. After a day off, McGrath was fresh and ready to go. When the 250cc Pros thundered up Mammoth's start hill for the main event, Weigand was out front with McGrath close behind. Then it happened: Weigand crashed, and he crashed hard. As the field went down Mammoth's famous back straight, Weigand landed off the second of two tabletops, hit a braking bump and was violently sent to the ground. With that, McGrath took over the lead. Weigand, meanwhile, got up but was spitting up blood and was taken to the hospital for further evaluation. Once in the lead, McGrath never relinquished it. Behind him, Sani and laPaglia, two upand-coming riders, battled for second. On the third lap, Sani took over second and tried his best to catch McGrath, but he could not. McGrath took the win, followed by Sani and laPaglia. That same day, Browne took a convincing win in the 250cc Intermediate class to go with his victory in the Open Intermediate class two days before, as well as his second in I25cc Intermediate competition. Another Suzuki pilot, Kevin Rookstool, was second, and Honda rider Austin Eitel was third. In other racing, Yamaha's Tarah Geiger swept both motos in the Women's Pro class. She simply dominated the races as Sani (168) and Michael laPaglia (31) battled in the 125cc and 25o.c Pro mains. laPaglia had an excellent weekend finishing on the podium in all three Pro classes. she effortlessly circulated the rough course. She also raced the I25cc Intermediate class and almost qualified for the main after nearly taking the holeshot in her qualifier. As for next year, expect the annual motocross pilgrimage to the Mammoth Mountain Motocross to occur once more. In faa, expect it to for years to come. Mammoth is here to stay once more. eN MAMMOTH MOUNTAIN MOTOCROSS PARK MAMMOTH LAKES, CAUFORNIA RESULTS: JUNE 16-27, 2005 SCHOOLBOY: I. Ryan Viltopoto (Kaw); 2. Michael laPaglia (Suz); 3.
