Jake Johnson -==~~.:.1;;;;4!..):.:ro=de the factory Suzuki to a decent seventh-place . .:.. finish. Shawn Baer (33A) qualified for his first career GNC main, finished 12th. Lima fan favorite Geo Roeder II (66) had a tough night en route to eighth. Briefly... Continued from page 31 Baer is subbing. "When Mike is at the track with me, he builds my confidence," Baer said. "He makes me think smarter, and he tells me from experience which lines work and which don't. He lays the whole race out for me. My biggest struggle is my starts, so I worked on those during practice. I was smooth, and it paid off." Hacker was justifiably proud of the young Baer. "By the time Shawn got out of the truck, he was fast," Hacker said. "I have been waiting for this for four weeks. He is strong on the half mile, so it was a perfect track for him. Shawn was in his comfort zone at the track and with the team. I had goose bumps as I watched him qualify for his first National. It was an adrenaline rush for me." However, the night belonged to Jared Mees. "The win is even sweeter than I thought it would be," he said. "Mike Hacker was right: Your first National win is so awesome and so emotional. I don't know what to say. I have a lot of faith in my team. Johnny Goad turns the wrenches and believes in me week in and week out. He puts everything he's got into my program. Johnny and Sarah Goad, Saddlemen Lancaster HarleyDavidson, Montgomeryville Cycle, Mike Bell Racing are all big supporters in my program. I can't thank enough the AMA and Quality Checked Certified Pre-Owned Ford and also Chris Carr as well for all his help and support. People ask what my favorite racetrack is, and I say the one I'm racing at next week. Now I might say Lima. I never thought that would happen. The thing that was going through my mind the last five laps were, 'Don't crash: and, 'I don't believe this.' By leading a few laps last week helped my confidence to know that I can run with these glJ}'$. I didn't think that I could run with them on a cushion half mile. Johnny Goad made me a cushion rider. I could never ride a cushion until I rode for him, and he has taught me to ride a cushion good."
