race, and I never crashed. I kept it upright
the whole time, and that was what I wanted to do. Later in the race, I got a little bit
of a lead, and I felt pretty comfortable
then with the pressure off. That's when
the silencer thing happened."
'" was surprised to see Dietrich up
there," Woods said. ':t\fter, I started thinking about it when we were riding. I mean,
it's his home track, and he has a lot of
time riding here on the slick stuff. I was
just trying to pace myself; he's not in the
championship run, and I wasn't going to
kill myself to win, but I wanted to win."
Woods took over the front at that
point, with Caselli closing on his 250
MXC, but Caselli's job became a lot easier when Woods' bike threw the chain
after hitting something in a deep rut.
While he threw the bike on its side and
frantically threaded the chain back on,
both Caselli and Smail rode past.
"I got a great start, but I went down in
the second corner, and that kind of
screwed everything up," Caselli said, "so I
just kind of took my time and picked my
way through everybody. Fortunately for
me, there were a few people with bad
luck. Ricky Dietrich - too bad for him, but
he was riding a great race.
