Grant shot out off the start of the second moto. The Californian gunned his
Honda CRF250R and never looked back though he did take a listen now and then.
"I really didn't know who was behind
me - they're all four-strokes, and they all
sound alike," Grant said. "So I just kind of
kept going, kept charging, just tried to hit
my lines and make it to the finish line."
With Grant all but gone, the drama
began to unfold between Tedesco and
Brown, especially once they got by the
injured Mike Alessi, who put up a valiant
effort despite being sidelined for the
week prior to Budds with a shoulder
injury.
On lap nine, Tedesco was able to get
past Alessi and for a moment that put a
two-rider buffer - Alessi and Tedesco's
teammate, Matt Walker - between he and
Brown. It was at that point "Brownie"
tapped on his amazing fitness level and
put the day's best charge on Walker,
catching and passing the Georgian flyer on
lap 10. Brown then chased Tedesco to the
end but knew if Grant held on for the
lead, his 1-3 would beat Tedesco's 2-2 by
a point for the overall win.
"It was hard to make up time, you'd
have to keep the power on up the hills
and be consistent," Brown said. "That's it,
really. I just rode consistent, and it
ended up being a good day for me."
Tedesco was also quite pleased with
his performance, his first podium of
the year and only the second of his
career, with the other one coming at
Budds in 2002.
"The last couple years I've been trying
to prove what I can do outdoors, and I
think I'm finally doing that this year,"
Tedesco said. "I'm sitting in second in the
series and getting better and better every
weekend. I've been working really hard,
and things have started to payoff for me
here."
"Tedesco's going to be the guy to
beat," Brown said.
In all, only one point separated first
from second place and a point separated
second from third - the closest overall fineN
ish all year.
