In order to improve safety, to reduce the influence of technology and to reintroduce the human factor to rally racing, the FIM has stated that the "GPS will be used Nicky Hayden is giving something back. The Repsol Honda rider knows he's one of the luckiest people in the world, doing what he's always wanted to do - chasing a dream. Now he's sharing his dream with a few others. The 23-year-old Kentuckian is supporting the Make-A-Wish Foundation by selling orange "Chasin' a Dream" wristbands on his website, www.nickyhayden.com.Net proceeds go the foundation, which helps children with life-threatening conditions realize their dreams. In this case, the children get to attend a MotoGP race. The British GP at Donington Park is the first event that the children will attend. "My position, I'm really lucky, reaily fortunate," Hayden said at the recent Grand Prix of Catalunya in Spain. ''I'm one of those guys that gets so caught up in the racing sometimes that you forget about all the other little things in life that are important." Over $1 million is up for grabs as part of the AMA Supermoto Championship contingency program, according to Todd Eagan, AMA Pro Racing Supermoto series manager. "To date, $I,014,4S0 has been posted and we expect more companies to come on BMW in Cahoots With Rotax? One of the more tantalizing products of the rumor mill that's currently circulating in Germany is that BMW is supposedly working on an all-new BOOcc three-cylinder engine, which is being developed for them by Rotax in Austria. No, it's not the purported three-cylinder MotoGP contender that the German company - Europe's largest motorcycles-only manufacturer - is supposedly working on in conjunction with ex-Ferrari chief engineer Mauro Forghieri's Modena·based design house. The MotoGP engine (which is being designed to meet the new maximum capacity limit coming into force in 2007, when BMW is rumored to be entering Grand Prix racing) has nothing to do with the Rotax design, which is a 100-percent streetfocused motor that will apparently reach production in two versions: a fully-faired supersport and a naked sports model. The inline triple is also reportedly not, as might be expected, one of the new 1200cc slant-block four-cylinder K1200 engines shorn of one cylinder. Instead it is an all-new dedicated motor aimed at resolving BMW's lack of a middleweight sports contender. It would be targeted in terms of performance at the existing range ofJapanese four-cylinder 6005 and the V-twin Ducati 749, as well as at the forthcoming Triumph 675 Daytona triple that the British firm is known to have under development for launch in 2006. And with the Rotax connection, it's likely that this will be the model that Aprilia will be manufacturing for BMW under the terms of the renewed agreement signed earlier this year between the two companies. Sounds plausible - and the sources the rumor comes from have impeccable prove- nance, so let's see if it turns out to be true! Alan Cathcart Canadian to win the !Ei:!?' Loudon Classic in Loudon, New Hampshire. Duhamei worked his way up to the lead from a ninth-place start... Jeremy McGrath won the fourth round of the AMA National Motocross Series at Budds Creek Raceway. Per event contingency as well as championship bonus money is available in all three classes of AMA Supermoto competition, including the premier Supermoto (45Occ) class as well as support classes Supermoto Unlimited (49Occ-plus) and Supermoto Utes (2SOcc). "Interest in AMA Supermoto continues to gain momentum in the United States," Eagan said. "Due to strong demand, we added the Supermoto Utes class for fourstroke 250cc machines this year, and we're beginning to see more production supermoto motorcycles coming to market. Initially, it seemed that only the European brands were interested in this category, but with Suzuki's introduction of its DR-Z400SM supermoto model, it's clear that the Japanese manufacturers have taken note, too. This bodes well for the future of supermoto racing in the United States." Round two of the championship is scheduled for July 30 at USA International Raceway in Shawano, Wisconsin.
