Briefly... Shane Watts might love his new KTM 250 SX-F, but he is willing to part ways with it. After next week's GNCC at the Wisp. the bike will go on eBay. Interested buyers should head to KTMHutt.com and follow the link to bid on the bike - which Watts will only race, not practice on at home. And the bike will be outfitted with a full set of Watts swag parts, making it a truly unique ride. The race was held at the Good Evening Ranch in Summersville, West Virginia, a vacation spot that offers cabins. golf, a concert theater. and even an exotic animaJ fann. But there's also a motocross track. which the riders seemed to like. The Mountaineer course featured a manmade obstacle section to slow the riders and give spectators something to see - the FMF Doomsday Downhill. GNCC trail boss Jeff Russell found logs laying around and laid them on the track, and then ended the section with a mud hole. It was just enough to slow, but not stop, most riders, and the action was pretty spectacular. "People were just sitting on that hillside. watching the guys in that section all day." Russell said. Injured GNCC Champion Rodney Smith finally returned to the GNCC racetrack - wearing the helmet cam for the GNCC television series on the Outdoor Ufe Network. Smith tucked in behind Salminen and Hawk on the Good Evening Ranch motocross track and not only kept pace, but it actually looked like he could have passed either of the riders at will. Smith was going so fast that GNCC officials had to pull him off the track before any riders or teams complained that he was interfering with the race. "That was pretty fun," Smith said. He added that he won't return to racing until after the GNCC summer break in September. CYCLE NEWS • JUNE 29, 2005 35
