Suzuki's Broc Hepler and former Southwick winner Danny Smith were all in the mix at one time or another. But Hughes held most of them off. "Myself and Brownie, 32 and 33 [years old], up here with our own littie privateer team," Hughes, who went 8-2 to get on the podium, said. "Everybody says you have to be young and be on a factory team to be up here, so I have to laugh at that. Last year I was on a 125, it felt like a I IO. This year I got on the 250 and thought, 'Hmm, I've still got a little bit of speed.' Anything can happen. The effort would put him on the podium for the third straight time - the only rider in the 125 class to do so this year. "It was a good day," Brown said, "not the best day, but I still have the points lead. My goal is to be in the top three - did that again this week even though I didn't ride my best. In the second moto, I got a little tired. Think I overdid it training with Ricky [Carmichael]. But I look forward to 26 getting back, doing my best each moto, and that's all I can do really." Brown and Hughes had to deal with a slew of hard-charging young stallions to make the podium, most of them at least a decade younger than the two veteran privateers.
