the series and to the top riders of each of the eight rounds.
Round one featured 33 riders competing for one of the 15
spots on the line in the main event. Time trials provided
information for placement in the six heat races. Danny Casey,
Jethro Halbert, Tony Souza Jr., Shawn Raggio, Shaun Russell and
Rick Hocking secured front-row positions in the main by winning
their heat races. Riddle Racing's Hocking, a four-time Grand

in the field. Putting this Bud Riddle-built motor to the test,
Hocking clocked the fastest heat-race lap time. The other 27
the main, while those finishing in slots three through fwe went to
the LCQ. Mark Corsetti took the LCQ home; he and the other
four top finishers went to the main, completing the IS-rider grid.
AMA District 36 2Q0.4 champion rider Danny Casey put on a
show on this night. At the top of his game, he won every event
he contested. The Rodman Desinz/Hlebo Brothers/Cycle
Gear/Motion Pro/KLH Racing Presents-sponsored rider got the
holeshot in the Open A event and took this race pole to pole.
Zanotti Racing's Jethro Halbert kept Casey honest, staying on his
back wheel for all 12 laps. Behind them, Russell and Souza
badgered each other for the third spot. Russell lost his front
wheel, giving Souza the opportunity he wanted, but just behind
Souza, Sammy Halbert was preparing to make his move. On lap
10, Sannmy got past Souza, and Raggio worked his way up into
the fifth finishing spot. Casey, Jethro Halbert and Sannmy Halbert

finished one, two, three.

Memoli Dominates Dunestown Opener
BY
GREG ROBERTSON
GORMAN, CA, MAY 1
D obert Memoli was the picture of dominance as he went six
I"for six in mota wins on the high-speed 1-5 Motocross track
during the opening round of the 28th annual California Racing
Club/Riders' Choice Performance·backed Dunestown Series.
Memoli flew his Honda of Houston/Shift/Scott/EVS-sponsored
Hondas to victory in the I25cc and 250cc Intermediate classes.
as well as the Four-Stroke Open class.
Memoli quickly made his way to the front of the pack in the
opening 250cc Four-Stroke moto but went down on lap two and
found himself back in fifth. Brett MounGtin inherited the top spot
and ran out front until Memoli caught and passed him just prior to
the white flag's unfurling. Mountain finished all by himself in second
place, ahead of Adann Lane, Nick Tokarski and Tyler Pierce.
Memoli made short work of the pack in moto two, as he
absconded with the holes hot and pulled out to a comfortable
IS-second lead at the checkers. Mark Brewer and Garrett
George chased each other up through the field and ended up
going at it over second place on the last lap until Brewer
overshot a turn, handing the position to George. George's 6-2
score just edged out the 3-5 tally of Lane for second overall.
Pierce (5-4) and Brewer (7-3) rounded out the top five.
George nabbed the holeshot in the opening 12Scc
Intermediate contest, but his lead was short-lived, as Memoli
went by within a few turns and pulled away. George went the
distance for runner-up honors, ahead of Kevin Wageman. Benny
Breck was a close fourth, with Tony Prince getting around
Mountain on the last lap for fifth.
Breck did manage to keep Memoli honest during the first
couple of laps of the second I25cc Intermediate mota until
Memoli upped his pace and walked away. George challenged
Breck and got by just past the midway point to go 2-2 on the
day. Breck's 4-3 score got the better of Wageman's 3-4 tally for
the third-place trophy.
Breck and Memoli returned to do battle early in the first
250cc Intermediate race, with Memoli inching away for good.
Sean Bailey claimed third, ahead of a good battle for fourth

between Anatol Kozlowski and Justin Reese that ended up in
Kozlowski's favor.
It was all Memoli in mota two after he escaped the grasp of
Breck by lap three. Breck piloted his Santa Barbara
Motorsports-backed Suzuki to another second-place finish, with
Bailey going 3-3 for third over the 4-5 score of Kozlowski and
the 8-4 finishes of Brewer.
Honda-mounted Garrett Ordelman was perfect in the 250cc
Pro class. Ordelman turned a couple of great starts into
convincing victories to collect the first-place payback. Shane
Smith worked his way up into 3-2 finishes to top the 2-3 efforts
of Donnie Weber for second overall. Nicholas Burson and David
Antillion finished fourth and fifth overall, respectively.
Kawasaki Team Green/Fox/PC5-backed Blake Baggett was one
of the top Mini riders on the day. Baggett outran everyone in both
Supermini races, with Tyler Sjoberg going 2-2 for second. Chris
Plouffe proved to be a formidable opponent in the 8Scc (12-13)
class, as he picked up the opening-moto win, over Baggett.
Baggett proved to be untouchable in moto two to earn his
second class victory on the day with 2-1 rides. Steven Tokarski
went 3-3 for third, behind Plouffe. Austin Barks earned a pair of
fourths.
