Continued from page 9 her accusations of two types of "egregious misconduct" by sheriff's deputies investigating the killings, according to the Pasadena Star-News report. Several witnesses testified Monday last week and at an earlier hearing that a Los Angeles County sheriff's detective convinced one of Goodwin's employees to spy on him in 200 I, shortly before Goodwin was arrested. The employee, Michael Jones, was hired to make copies, go to different courts and fetch documents for his defense as Goodwin directed, Jones testified. During his employment, he reported to a Sheriff's Department detective on the daily activities of Goodwin. Saris argued that because Jones had access to Goodwin's legal affairs, he violated Goodwin's attorney-client privilege. Deputy District Attorney Alan Jackson argued in response that Jones' spying did not include any privileged information, the newspaper reports. Judge Teri Schwartz agreed. She denied the defense's motion to dismiss the case on that basis. Saris also has filed a motion dismiss the case because police took I 16 boxes of documents from Goodwin's home, some of which contained information protected by the attorney-client privilege. Those documents found their way to prosecutors, who never should have seen them, Saris said. "You can't unring a bell," she said. If the case is not dismissed, Saris argued, the LA district attorney's office should recuse itself from prosecuting the case. (The case was moved from Orange County to Los Angeles County a year ago.) A hearing on transferring the case to the state's attorney general's office will be held June 2, according to the Pasadena Star-News.
