Woodland MX Park It's No Hokum - It was Holuml RESULTS By JUSTIN WHARTON WOODLAND, WA, MAR. 13 he Pacific Northwest has been experiencing unbelievable weather this year. While California has been getting drenched with rain, Northwest riders have been experiencing a dry winter, with average temperatures in the 60s. So instead of battling the mud, track builders had to deal with an abnormal amount of dust. The water truck was going full speed all day to prOVide riders with the best conditions possible. KTM-mounted brothers Chris and Nick Holum were on fire, as the two bested some of the top riders in the 125cc Expert class. Still sticking to the traditional twostroke machinery, Chris swept both motos, holding off any advances. It was anyone's guess as to which of the four riders battling for second would come out on top of that skirmish; in the end, it Matthew Kelly taking the position with a 2-4 moto score. Nick (5-2) finished third, Derek Campbell (4-3) was fourth, and Steve Mitchell (3-5) rounded out the top five. Campbell came back with a vengeance in the Before The Hill class, completely annihilating the competition in both motos. After some intense battling, Steven Jacobs (2-4) took second, David Cox (5-2) took third, Zach Fleming (4-3) was fourth, and Kyle Jagow (6-5) took fifth. Former top WML competitor Tract Fleming has been picking up speed lately. Rumors are flying about whether or not she will try to go for the WML title this year, but whether those rumors are true or not, one thing is for sure: She is on fire! In the Women's class, Fleming won both motos with ease. Mary Radmacher got the holeshot in both motos, but Fleming and Samantha Petrich quickly got around her. Petrich has been trying in vain to match Fleming's pace all season, and after leading much of last Sunday's race, she seemed to have a chance. Unfortunately, she was once again given the second-place trophy after tallying a 2-2 score. Radmacher (3-3) took third, Kristi Johansen (4-4) took fourth, and Cassidy Bragg (5-5) finished fifth. Fleming tried to take another win in the Over 30 Amateur class, and she might have done it, too, had it not been for Todd Burchett, who won both motos, while Fleming finished second in each moto. Todd Risner went 4-4 for third, Tim Shirley (3-5) took fourth, and Ryan Jones (6-3) finished fifth. Andy Richards has been tearing it up on his Bs lately, and on this day, after killing the Bscc classes in the morning, he tried the 250cc Amateur class - and, just like on his 85, he won. Richards had to fend off 125cc Amateur winner Ryan Skinner to get the victory, but with his 1-2 punch. Richards took the overall win. Skinner (4-1) had to settle for second, and Jeff Reed (2-3) finished third. After quite some battling with Richards, Brauer (l-4) took the fourth-place pOSition. Rounding out the top five was Phillip Springer (5-5). T The first turn was a busy place in the 125cc C contest at the Georgia Championship Series event at Echeconnee Race Park. Ashley Epps (Hon): 3. MX West Spring Series Round 4: Fernley International Raceway York Mints a Victory By ROBERT BEAUPRE FERNLEY, NV, MAR. 13 T he jump from minicydes to full-sized bikes isn't easy for most riders, but Tyler York looked as though he's been riding a CRF2s0R all his life as he rode to victory in the 125cc Junior class at round fOUf of the MX West Spring Series. York, who was a top minicycle pilot in the area just months ago. put in two confident rides for a perfect I-I score. The race was not without challenges for York, however, as Suzuki pilot Chris Wear tested him in a second-moto battle, with the overall win hanging in the balance. After York rode to a runaway win in the first moto, Wear, who finished second in moto one, grabbed the second-moto holeshot and tried to break away from York early on. Wear succeeded in pulling a slight advantage early in the race, but the ever-persistent York reeled in Wear around midmoto and began applying pressure. Wear hung tough until the second-to-Iast lap, when he overshot a turn and handed the victory to York. Wear recovered for second, and Trent Renner piloted his Honda to third overall. In Intermediate action, Wes Peebles put in four dominating performances aboard his Troy Lee Designs/Pro Circuit/Schmidt Performance/ Kurt Henricksen MX Schools/Stomp Designsbacked Suzuki to claim I-I victories in the 250cc Intermediate and Schoolboy classes. Peebles has his eye on success at the Amateur Nationals this summer, and he proved to be a step above his fellow Intermediates on this day. "[I felt] pretty good," Peebles said after his final moto. "My arms held up, with no arm pump, so I was able to go hard through all of my motos." Ryan Eager topped the I25cc Intermediate class over the early challenges of Andrew Valdez. Travis Mciver rode to third overall. The Vet classes featured an impressive ride from Aaron Bissell, as he rode to decisive wins in both motos of the Over 30 Intermediate class. Bissell has improved steadily since turning Intermediate, and he looked very comfortable on this day, even as the Fernley course turned rougher toward the end of the afternoon. Jim Koschella grabbed second, behind Bissell, and Marvin Small scored third. Just ahead of the 62 Intermediates, Anthony Pulera took the Over 30 Expert victory, over Kevin Knight and Marcus Gentry.
