Hacker will miss at least the next two rounds of the AMA Ford Quality Checked Flat Track Series. The surgery was performed by Dr. Vi pool Goradia of GO Orthopedics. Goradia and his team specialize in sports medicine. "GO Ortho is dedicated to returning athletes to the playing field as soon as safely possible," Goradia said. "The ath- lete's need for speedy recovery has led to the development of more accelerated procedures for diagnosing. treating and reha- bilitating sports injuries. Our goal at GO Ortho is to see every injured athlete as soon as possible after the injury occurs. Through a careful examination and appropriate tests, we can provide a proper and accurate diagnosis. We will then discuss with the athlete his or her options for treatment. So that everyone understands the patient's recovery. we will also discuss treatmem information with family members, coaches and trainers." Hacker first injured the shoulder when he crashed into Shawn Baer during a heat race at the season opener in Daytona. Hacker went on to qualify for the main event, finishing 14th. "The shoulder really didn't bother me after Daytona, and I didn't think anything of it other than maybe I aggravated it," Hacker said. ''I'm disappointed because I know that SuperTrapp, lombardi's, Schott5 and Tom Norton at lexus of Cherryhill have put a lot of resources into our program, and I believe that it's going to be one of the best out there. I'm hopeful that the time I'm going to be off will be minimal, but everyone involved with the team has made me feel at ease by assuring me that it will all be waiting for me when I do get back." Rutter, Haslam Split British Superbike Races Superbike Deja Vu Honda's Michael Rutter and Ducati's Leon Haslam split victories in the British Superbike round held at Oulton Park in England on May 2, with Rutter pulling away from the pack in the series points standings. Rutter won race one in the Monday event, besting Ducati-mounted Gregorio lavilla and Honda-mounted Karl Harris. Haslam, meanwhile, finished third. In the wet second race, it was Haslam and his Ducati taking the victory, beating Rutter by just over a second, with Harris finishing third. Rizla Suzukis' james Haydon finished fourth in the second race in his fill-in ride for defending series champion John Reynolds. the Brit recovering from a broken leg. Haydon was eighth in the first race after a first-turn collision with another rider forced him off the track. "That was fantastic. Thank you so much to Rizla Suzuki for letting me ride here today, I really enjoyed myself," Haydon said in a team release. "The wet but drying second race was tricky, but my Rizla Suzuki was giving me so much feedback that I was hanging the back out in Kevin Schwantz style and grinning under my visor. I tried hard and almost had a podium. In the first race, I had a bit of contact in the first corner with a couple of other riders, and that broke a part of my brake lever. I only found out at the chicane when I went for the lever and it wasn't there! I ran on, kept it upright and fought back to eighth. I am sure I could have ran with the leaders. The Rizla Suzuki is a great bike - my thanks to j.R. for letting me race it as he is healing." After four of 13 rounds, Rutter leads the title chase over lavilla, 164-108. A MA Superbike racing doesn't have throwback jerseys like the NBA and Nfl, but if you're a longtime J'"\superbike racing fan, jeremy Toye's HotBodies Racing Honda may look vaguely familiar to you. Toye's Honda has an amazing resemblance to Scott Gray's Vance & Hines Suzuki, circa 1986. Both bikes sport a red, black and white paint scheme and, of course, share the number S7. The riders even both wore Shoei Helmets. Perhaps the designer of Toye's bike used the Vance & Hines Suzuki as inspiration. Here's to Toye's throwback. lorry lawrence 14 MAY 11,2005 • CYCLE NEWS AUTOGRAPH SIGNING: At Marin Cycleworks Suzuki in Corte Madera, California, on May 12 from 6 to 7 p.m. Team Yoshimura Suzuki riders Mat Mladin, Ben Spies and Aaron Yates along with racing legend Kevin Schwantz are scheduled to appear.
