John Olmsted (Yam). Hidden Valley Matacross Track Spring Feverl By STEPHANIE WEST BURLISON, TN, MAR. 6 t's been a long and rain-filled winter for the riders in the Mid· South area. So it was no surprise to see so many eager racers at the Saturday practice day at Hidden Valley Motocross Track the day before their first race. Sunday's weather forecast was promising; apparently Mother Nature would be cooperative as the season kicked off in a great way. A prepared track complete with brand-new changes awaited the anxious riders on Sunday morning. There was lots of intense racing action, especially in the ascc (12-15) motos. Honda pilot Bradley Greer took the overall with I-I finishes. The results may not show it, but Greer had to work for his win in the second moto after he got a less-thanstellar start. However, he worked his way up to the front, where he took the checkered flag. Yamaha pilot Chad Butts gave Greer a run for his money in both mO[Qs, with KTM jockey Caleb Haywood hot on his heels; they finished second and third, respectively. in both motos. The fastest class by far was the 2S0cc Pro class. McGrath isn't the only one making a comeback! Hidden Valley saw the return of one of its favorite Pro riders this weekend. Jeff Burkett of Collierville, Tennessee. was riding a YZ4S0F, sporting a 13 on his number plate. Burkett is always a crowd favorite around here, but winning would not come easily, as Suzukimounted Blair Miller pulled the holeshot in the first moto and quickly settled into a nice lead. However, due to mechanical failure, Miller posted a DNF in the first mota, leaving Burkett to take the first·moto win. In the second moto, after some bike repairs, it was all Miller from the time the gate dropped. Miller easily guided his Suzuki to the checkered flag for the win but had to settle for second place overall, with Burkett getting the overall win! Husky man Kevin Lambert completed the podium.
