Kiedrowski ron in the front group all day but couldn't make a dent in Woods' lead; he finished third. Brief'Y··· A first-lap crash took out KTM racer Bobby Bond. in a new off-eamber downhill section. He reponedly suffered a dislocated shoulder and DNFed. Team Green's David Pearson and Lance Smail DNFed fairly early in the race. Pearson had been fighting back-pain all week and after four laps called it a day. Smail mixed it up with the leaders - holding second place at one point - but he apparently hit a rock that was sticking out of the side of a gully with his elbow. He quickly lost feeling and strength in that arm. He stopped, pulled off his glove and discovered that his hand was white and cold. After some massaging, Smail got some feeling back and proceeded. It still wasn't 100 percent, though. A brake problem shonly after sent him to the pits for good. After Team Green racer Craig Wesner seized his KX2S0 on Saturday, his traveling partner Damien Galford loaned him his own KX2S0. Galford was prepared to sit out as a result, but upon learning of that, Nathan Woods loaned Galford one of his YZ450F practice bikes. Wesner would finish ISth, while Galford placed 22nd in his debut on a thumper. Local racer David Kama probably felt like a magazine test rider, as he competed on four different brands of bikes over the weekend. After his own RM250 broke in the 250cc A-class qualifier on Saturday, he borrowed a KTM thumper for another race, a CRF4S0R for yet another, then Brian Brown's 10<250 practice bike for the SemiPro event. Brown, another Idaho resident, spectated over the weekend as he continues to recover from injuries suffered last month at the National Hare and Hound in Califomia. While his back feels good, he reponed that his wrist is still somewhat troublesome. would've been a different race if it was dusty like it was on Saturday. I'm not much of a hard-pack rider. The thing is, I ride sand so much that I just haven't really caught up with a lot of the other guys on hard-pack, but I'm working on that. Luckily, the last couple races have been on sand, and it's been working out to my advantage. I know the next couple tracks we'll probably be going to might be the old hard-pack. So, I need to get on the program and make sure I can ride everything." eN Russell Pearson really wanted to win the race because he'd then win a bet with videographer Mike Demaree. But since he finished fifth, Pearson lost the bet. The price? Demaree got to shear Pearson's head into a very sloppy Mohawk. Russell's brother Nick had a similar bet with cousin David Pearson, but David opted out before the race - a premonition, perhaps, that his back wasn't going to allow him to even finish.
