Eric Warrington (102) got the holeshot in the first Intermediate moto at the OTHG event at Glen Helen Raceway Park, but Kevin Charter (69) won the overall. Over The Hill Gang Motocross REM Track at Glen Helen Raceway Park Charter Does the Deed in Berdoo By CHRIS CUMBO SAN BERNARDINO, CA, FEB. 27 ric Warrington lined up outside the starter box. When the gate dropped for the Intermediate class, Warrington maneuvered his way E over, taking the inside line away from Paul Kuehnel and Curt Bennett. Warrington was running with a full head of steam. Kevin Charter, overcoming a poor start, passed Bennett in the back section. Charter took the lead by the fifth lap and opened up a 10-second lead. On the last lap. Bennett (who was just recently bumped up to this class) tried several charges on Kuehnel for second, but he would finish third in both motos, holding his own with an aggressive riding style. Kuehnel absconded with the holeshot in the second mota, with Warrington close behind. Charter kept the two front-runners close. By midmoto, Charter's patience had run out, so with smooth, clean maneuvers, Charter took over at the front for a I-I score. In the Over 38 Intermediate class, Jeff Roehm set out to be the point man. Rudy Chavez, a tough competitor at the REM track, took a soil sample on lap two. Eric Barr, Pat Samudio and Adrian Ciomo had their own battle going just behind Roehm, until Roehm submitted to their relentless pressure. The trio then held the top three positions in both matos, waging a knock-down, drag-out battle way out in front of the rest of the pack. The Over 45 Novice-class fans were out in force for the gang's largest talent-filled class. Bryan Dodge appeared to be the hands-down favorite; at his last engagement at the REM track, Dodge obtained the number-one podium spot. On this day, Dodge didn't get his firstmota win easily. At first, Dodge was following two top contenders, Dave Blosser and Jim Holeman. Reid Franke stayed on Dodge's fender, in case of any miscues. By lap four, the two front runners had a seven-second lead on Dodge. On the last lap, after passing Holeman in the back section, Dodge went wide on a multi-line right-hander, setting up a slingshot move on Blosser. Dodge held the inside on the next two one-line turns for the win. Moto two was similar to mota one, though Holeman led initially. This time, Dodge passed Holeman in the same section as he had Blosser, but with two laps to spare. Dodge finished with a 12-second lead, while looking over his shoulder - probably with a smile. In the Over 45 Beginners class, Steve Landsberg got the holeshot on his Dunlap racereplica tires. Ben Paris kept Landsberg in Sight until Landsberg stalled his bike in a downhill sandy rut, allowing Paris to pass him and carry on to the checkers. FMF-sponsored Landsberg got the holeshot in the second moto, and led to the finish for the overall win. "I didn't want to make any mistakes," Landsberg said afterward. "I could feel the pack on my ass, but I didn't look back - I just raced the track." RESULTS KIDS SUP: I. Dylan Bennett; '2. Devon Amerison: 3. Chris Gazafy. SUP: I. Jonathan Sprague; 2. Ken Erb; 3. GFI Winter Series Round 4: Oaffield Raceway Mockridge Harvests a Win at the Oatfield By JIM AND JUSTIN ENOS TURLOCK, CA, FEB. 27 ordan Mockridge, whose family operates Mockridge Farms in Oregon, found himself right at home at the Oatfield Raceway, as he dominated both motos en route to the J 62 250ccc Intermediate-class win. This was round four of the 2005 GFI Winter Series and, with the Oatfield Raceway having lain dormant during the winter months, an excited crowd of more than 400 riders came out to take on the challenging track. APRIL 27,2005 • CYCLE NEWS In the first mota, Nevada's Aron Harvey shot out in front of the 22-rider field as Mockridge lurked in around the fifth spot. But by the second lap, Mockridge had made his way to the front, and his relentless charge saw him set an unmatched pace all the way to the checkers. Harvey held on to the second spot. Yamaha pilot Kris Triest made an impressive charge from the back of the pack to take the third spot. In mota two, Harvey once again got the holeshot, as Mockridge, Triest and Kevin Rookstool, who was busy trying to figure out a brand-new RM-Z4S0, all gave chase. Once again, Mockridge made quick work of Harvey, and once out front, he made sure no one was in a position to challenge him. With the two spot up for grabs, Harvey and Triest battled for several laps until Triest finally made a move, while Rookstool followed. At the checkers, Mockridge earned the overall via his I-I efforts. Triest (3-2), Harvey (2-4), Rookstool (8-3) and Kyle Kent (6-5) rounded out the top five. Austin Ingalls took on a huge 27-rider field of 12Scc Intermediates, and a solid pair of mota rides saw him earn the top spot. Though Mockridge won the second mota, he had gone down in the first mota and carded a 20th, so Ingalls' 1-2 punch proved more than enough for the overall. Runner-up Rookstool rode to an uncharacteristic 5-5 tally, and Brad Kelly rounded out the top three with a 4-9 showing. A younger Ingalls, Topher, totally dominated the 80cc ranks, as he did no worse than second en route to overalls in the 80cc Intermediate, Topher Ingalls dominated the 80cc ranks at round four of the GFI Winter Series in Turlock, California. 80cc Open and Supermini classes. Topher went down twice on the day, which was the only reason the speedster failed to win every moto he entered. Suzuki pilot Ricky Rinauro mustered up a pair of runner-up spots on the day with a 1-2 effort in the 80cc Intermediate class and a 1-3 ride in the Supermini ranks, while Austin Howell grabbed the two spot on the day in the 80cc Open class. Mutant Motorsports Winter Storm Series Round 5: Carnegie 5VRA Nada Could Stop Nava By KRIS HAUfE CARNEGIE, CA, FEB. 27 he 80cc Beginner riders came out in force for round five of the Mutant Motorsports/Mission Motorcycles/Tracy Chevrolet/ Extreme Motorsports Winter Storm Series, which meant there would be two divisions and some great racing. Jolita Nava and Steven Rutherford put in their best efforts, grabbing mota wins in Divisions One and Two, respectively. Rutherford didn't have the same luck in the second mota, trying to work his way up from the back of the pack. Nava made quick work of first-lap leader Jared Tomasini for the mota win and the overall victory. Kasie Creson rounded out the podium on her KTM. Creson and Nava would face off again later in Women's class action. Creson was able to hold T off Nava in the second moto, but Nava's 2-3 tally was good enough for second overall, behind Stephanie Cancilla, who made her mota wins look effortless with great starts and large leads. Honda CRFs led the way in the I 25cc and 2S0cc Beginner classes. Larry Quintana won all four motos in those classes aboard his Honda CRF250. Honda pilots Ron Clark and Cory Kraut fought off full gates for second overall in the 125s and 250s, respectively. Josh Greco, on his Fox/FMF/]N Innovations! Spy/No-Toil-backed YZ85, had his hands full with Suzuki rider Dylan Lane. Greco started off on the wrong foot, losing his balance halfway through the first 80cc Intermediate mota and letting his competition slip past. Bouncing back to his usual form, Greco rode to smooth mota wins in the 80cc (12-16) and 80cc Supermini classes. Lane then turned the tables in their
