eam KTM's Mike Lafferty proved to the crowd in attendance at round
AMA National Enduro Series that although he's not fond of South Jersey's
tight trails, he still knows how to ride them. Actually, he still knows how to
tear them up and blow them out the back of his KTM 4S0 EXC in big
ragged chunks. Lafferty dropped 28 points over the 97-ground-mile
Greenbrier National Enduro course in Port Elizabeth, New Jersey, absolutely
annihilating the competition in the process. For Lafferty, it was his second win of
the season, second in a row, and with it, he created an even more comfortable
points lead. He now is 21 points up from Steve Hatch for the championship.
Lafferty's closest competitor at the Greenbrier was his brother, Richard
Lafferty, on a Town & Country KTM. He earned his second-place spot a full
12 points behind his brother, carding a 40 at the final check. Richard was
tied in the results with former SETRA champ Russell Bobbitt, who also
dropped a 40 but collected a few more emergency points along the way.
Local riders Kevin Bennett and Gas Gas' Fred Hoess rounded out the
top five.
Last year's AMA National Enduro Champion Randy Hawkins was a
factor in the top five until late in the race, when he got out of synch
with the trail and smacked a tree, injuring his shoulder and putting him
