wall, and he'd be brought in for a debriefing,
never a hint as to why. "We'd ask him about
the bike." At the tests following Phillip Island,
every time he pitted the computer would be
covered. '''Don't worry about it,''' they told
him, "because what we found was if he was .3
seconds off Sete [Gibemau], he thought he
was all right but wasn't overriding. When he
gets excited, he overrides. So Marco couldn't
go up and look at his times."

Polini Moton celebrated the success of the
Telef6nica MoviStar Honda MotoGP team by
producing a pair of mini-replicas of the double
podium Honda RC21IVs. The newest pocketbikes were presented to team owner Fausto
Gresini and Jerez third-place finisher Marco
Melandri in a Friday night ceremony. The
Melandri and Gibemau replica Polini 910 Carena S minis have a light alloy die-cast frame,
front and rear disk brakes, aluminum alloy rims,
and an air-cooled 40cc two-stroke engine that
puts out a whopping 4.2 horsepower. At 18
kilos (39.6 pounds), Gresini was able to carry
the replica up the stairs of his transporter,
where it served as guardian to the front door.
Melandri, like Valentino Rossi and a number of
other Italians, got his start in pocketbike racing.
In his teleconference to help promote the U.S.
Gp, Valentino Rossi confirmed that he'd stay
in motorcycle racing for at least one more year.
"I think next year is with MotoGP with the
bikes, and after, I decide if I race in the future
with cars or not," he said. "I don't decide yet.
Anyway, the cars are my great passion after the
bikes, so maybe is possible."
Rossi wasn't entirely convinced of the severity
of Sete Gibemau's injury. "I'm more quiet
because I see he [Gibemau] stay well with the
shoulder, he go very fast. So it's better. Because
if he have pain, was worse because touching
with me and blah, blah, blah. So think is okay."
Marlboro Ducati abandoned the electronic
engine-braking system because it was simply
too complex. "Last weekend [in Jerez] we
finally didn't race because we see that for race,
also my feeling, physically was not right enough
to take that risk," Carlos Checa said of the race
where both Ducati riders crashed trying to
adapt. "We see that it was not stable and for
me was more hard to race. We see the potential because Loris [Capirossi] use it during qualifying and lap time was not so bad, especially
Loris. But to be constant and confidence with
the bike was maybe not the best. Then we
decide to remove." Furthermore, worl
