The event was also the second annual Mike Davidson Memorial MX. Davidson was a well-known local rider who died unexpectedly of cancer at age 36. Following the riders' meeting, a parade lap was led by Mike's nephew Tayler Davidson in a moving salute to Mike's memory. In the 50cc (7-8) contest, HRP 5ports/5cott/RK-backed Tayler Davidson returned to the track and squared off with series leader Alan Sparks. Davidson was slowed by mechanical problems in moto one and had to settle for the runner-up honors. SVD/Kirk's Cycles-backed Sparks won the day via his 1-2 tally, capping his overall series victory. In his first time out on a "big" bike, Sparks also rode the 6Scc Beginner class. Sparks won both motos, ahead of Cody Nowlin. Davidson was entered in the regular 6Scc (7-9) division, where he placed second, behind Jared Huffman. In the SOce Shaft division, newcomer Devan Bomar got his motocross career off to a good start as he and Braston Hodge shared moto wins. Hodge won the day, as well as the series overall, in both the 50cc Shaft and 50cc (4-6) classes. As expected in the Women's 0-1 OSee division. the Sparks sisters fought with the jacks sisters. However, this time, swift Natalia Cline was on hand to mix it up with the sisters. Cline recovered from a spill in the opening moto and scored 3~ I to win the day in a points tie over Jacklyn Sparks. Abigail Jacks finished 2-4 to claim the final podium spot, ahead of her sister Chloe. Transmission trouble in moto one held series winner Danielle Sparks to fifth overall. Suzuki/Vamaha of Dalton's Chad Whidby continued his domination of the 12Scc Youth and I25cc C divisions, winning all four motos ahead of rival Josh Roberson. Whidby claimed the series championship in both classes. Zane Rollins stormed to both moto wins in the Supermini (Han); 5. Ryan Skinner (Yam). 125 AM 0-2: I. Stephen Buder (Hall); 2. The 12Scc B division saw Matt Kiser and Dustin jones battle to a tied score. Kiser got by jones in the finaJ moto to take the win and the overall. Off the track, Evan Pf10ck and 8rian Gentry are good friends, but their winner-take-all match-up in the 250cc 8 final moto was a fierce fight. Pacific International Trials Society Class A Championship Series Round ,: Frank Raines Park MacDonald Blows McCloud Away By PERRIS HILLTON PATTERSON, CA, FEB. 27 A strong finish moved Craig MacDonald from I""\a distant fourth on the first loop to a narrow Senior Sportsman B win with all the loop cards turned in at the Pacific International Trials Society season opener. Held in the moist green hills surrounding Del Puerto Canyon, between Patterson and San Jose, the observed trial featured the best terrain Frank Raines Park's 860 acres have to offer. Creek crawling, side hilling, gully diving, log jumping and waterfall climbing were only some of the challenges designed by organizers Ken Pedersen, 80b Weber and Martyn Holgate. MacDonald's opening-loop 21-point card put him 10 points off jim McCloud's leading 58 pace - a seemingly insurmountable deficit. More than halVing his score on the second loop. he moved up only one pOSition with 10 sections to ride. A class-division best of eight points on the final loop was enough to put him a single point ahead of McCloud, who dropped lOon the last ioop. Had McCloud and MacDonald tied, McCloud was three cleans ahead for the tie breaker. Charles Dewitt. who led after two loops, faltered, dropping a class-high 23 points for the last go-around. It was nail-biting time in the Novice class. Riding relatively easy sections, both Sam Narf and Bob Randall had plenty of ones, and the each only dabbed twice in a section - neither rider had any threes or fives. At the end, Naff bested Randall, 7-10.
