Briefly... Conrinued from page II rode for second place to conserve my ener- The Honda Red Riders Jr. Supermoto Challenge presented by the Honda Red Riders Club of America (HRCA) will again be presented as a support class in the upcoming AMA Supermoto Championship. This marks the third season of the program that features riders between the ages 01 I2 and 15 competing on identically prepared Honda CRF 150F motorcycles. "The Honda Red Riders Jr. Supermoto program has been extremely popular," said American Supercamp's Danny Walker, the program's administrator. "We've had some great kids come through the program, and I think it's going to help build a solid base of future AMA Supermoto riders. We are getting riders from all disciplines of racing involved in supermoto. Already we're seeing a few riders from the Honda Junior Supermoto program moving up to the pro ranks. We've had some great races in the series, and it's gratifying to see these kids making the transition to the pros. With the new 250 class in AMA Supermoto, it should provide even more of an opportunity for young riders to make a name for themselves." Chad Cose won the Jr. Supermoto Championship last year In Las Vegas. Mike Alessi won the title in 2003. A total of 15 riders will be chosen to race in each round, and the top-three from each race will be invited to compete in the AMA Red Bull Supermoto A-Go-Go championship finale event held this year in Reno, Nevada, on October I. ''These kids put on a first-class race," said Bill Savino, assistant manager, HRCA. "Danny and the Honda Supercamp crew make it pretty easy: Just show up and bring your helmet. We are happy to be involved with the AMA Supermoto Series. Going into our third year of the Red Rider Jr. Supermoto program, we are hoping to continue to entice kids to get involved not only with racing, but to excel in school." When team owners fume in public dept.: Stobart Honda team boss Paul Bird has demanded a massive improvement all round after his team's disappointing results at Thruxton in the latest round of the British Superbike Championship. Despite Jeremy McWilliams overcoming a race-one crash to post a top-10 finish in the second race at round two of the series, Bird wasn't pleased. "That's two meetings whereby we have underachieved, and it's simply not acceptable for a team with our reputation," Bird said in a team release. "I need to see some positives over the next couple of meetings now - otherwise there'll be some big changes, I promise. We should be up there battling for race wins and podiums instead of just scraping into the points like we are doing at present. To say I'm unhappy is a massive understatement, and things will have to improve from now on." The next round of the series takes place at Mallory Park on April 24. Team Shift Motul Suzuki's Daryl Hurley gave the new Suzuki RM-Z450 four-stroke its maiden victory at the second round of the Australian Motocross Championship in Horsham, Victoria, on April 10. "The first race was well within my grasp, but I was pushing too hard for the lead and made an error," Hurley said. "When I fell, I knew I'd lost my opportunity to take the win in race one, so I gy for race two." Hurley was in a class of his own in the second moto, lapping more than I .5 seconds faster than any other rider on the circuit. The new motorcycle movie Dust to Glory opened in theaters nationwide on Friday, April 8. The movie documents the Baja 1000.
