On March 17, 146 cars and motorcycles showed up to compete in the new weekly grudge matches. When the smoke settled it was Daniel Liechty with the fastest e.t. on his Kawasaki ZX-I OR, running a 9.982 quarter-mile time. Liechty beat a host of cars and bikes, including Stacy Moore's 1965 Factory 5 Cobra Roadster, to take the win. Thursday Night Street Wars will be conducted from 8 p.m. - I a.m., March 31, May 12, June 9, July 14, August I I and September IS. Gates open at 7 p.m. Entry fee is $20 to race. Spectator admission is $5. Alcohol is not allowed at the events. Daniel Liechty took home the trophy for quickest e.t. at LVMS's Thursday Night Street Wars. I American Motocross on Displav The Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum will celebrate the opening of its next major exhibit, "Motocross America," with a special Motocross Reunion, bringing together many of the racing and industry legends who helped shape the history of America's first action sport. Scheduled for July 14, this gathering of champions, industry icons and Motorcycle Hall of Fame members will include some of the best-known names and faces in the sport, such as David Bailey, Mike Bell, Dick Burleson, Roger DeCoster and Chuck Sun. In addition to the exhibit dedication ceremony, the July 14 festivities will also feature a special museum reception honoring the men and women profiled in "Motocross America," autograph sessions, entertainment and more. Motocross Reunion activities will continue July I5-17 at AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days, held at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in LeXington, Ohio, just 90 minutes from the Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum. Throughout the weekend, more than 45,000 expected enthusiasts will be able to see and meet their favorite motocross heroes, from appearances at the Museum's Motorhead Cafe to parade laps on Mid-Ohio's motocross track. There is convincing evidence that this particular bike was owned by late movie star and racer Steve McQueen, who had bought a frame from Hallman Racing. Although there are no conclusive facts, the mystery behind this bike adds to its intrigue and value. Speed King Don Vesco was the king of Bonneville, the first man to break the 200-mph barrier at the famous Salt Flats when he did so in his Yamaha Silver Bird. Vesco would later go 318.598 mph in a Kawasaki-powered streamliner, a record that would stand for two decades. Vesco died in December of 2002 after losing a bout with cancer.
