Southland Vintage Racing Group Glen Helen Raceway Park O'Donnell Takes Two at SVRG By RICH TRUCHINSKI SAN BERNARDINO, CA, FEB. 13 Dick O'Donnell jumped at the chance to go out and win I"'some gold in both the Over 30 Evolution class and the Evolution One Expert class. Jon Barrick took top honors in the Evo- lution Three Intermediates. A break in the rain gave the competitors in the SVRG series a chance to go out and reminisce in the mud. In the first Over 30 Evolution moto, Gilbert Valdez appeared to have it wrapped up after taking the win with out too much trouble. O'Donnell finished second in a mota that had the Intermediates in the mix as well. Honda pilot Kenn Hughes took the win in that class, with Dave Mock and Tim Lindewall finishing second and third. In an upset second Expert mota, O'Donnell took the win due to the fact that Valdez was a noshow. Hughes again navigated a few mud ruts and puddles to take the Intermediate-mota win, with Lindewall taking second from Yamaha pilot Mock. Overall, it was O'Donnell taking the Expert-class win and Hughes taking the Intermediate·class win, followed closely by Lindewall and Mock. In the Evolution One Expert class, O'Donnell never looked back, taking commanding leads in both motos. Tom and Ted Fitzgerald made it a family affair, follOWing in second and third for the day. In the Evolution Three Intermediate class, Rich Boiteau rode well and even gave the Experts some trouble while taking the first-mota win, over Barrick and Brian Backer. Barrick would have none of that, and he proceeded to pass Boiteau for the mota win and the overall for the day. Undewall rounded out the top three, taking third-place honors from Backer, who was a no-show for mota two. Overall, it was Barrick with the win, Boiteau hanging in for second, and Lindewall finishing third for the day. eN RESULTS PRE·1965 250/500: I. John Pischke (But). PRE-1972 NOV: I.
