AHRMA Progressive Suspension Historic Cup Series
improved on Monday's sixth-place finish in
BOT F-2 with a win over Kiyo Watanabe.
Next up, Tim Joyce earned his second
convincing BEARS win, this time over
Nichols, after Monday's second-place finisher Craig Murray destroyed himself with
a crash in the Thruxton race. John Staska
jetted off to a second win in Vintage
Superbike Heavyweight, ahead of a nice
race for second between AHRMA referee
Will Harding and Jeff Hinds. On the whiteflag lap, Harding passed Hinds on the
brakes going into the horseshoe to earn
the runner-up spot.
For Harding, it was a reunion ride on
the big red Moto Guzzi.
"It's the same bike we built years ago
with Stan Fridus to go race Superbike," he
said.
Formula 750's Battle of the Nines again
fizzled when Gary Nixon broke a chain on
the grid, but Joyce gamely stepped in for a
Harley-on-Harley
tussle
with
Jay
Springsteen. The two really put on a show
aboard the matching XRTTs, with Joyce
having to make up missed shifts with some
aggressive riding to re-c1ose the gap.
Springsteen has seen plenty of draft-andpass moves in mile dirt track racing over the
years, and he did his best to keep Joyce
from taking advantage of that sort of move,
with a low line through the tri-oval on the
last lap and a well-timed weave headed to
the checkered flag. But Joyce found a solution and drafted past for the win.
"That was great racing," Springsteen
said. "He beat me right at the line - that's
two years now."
John Ellis came out atop Paul Lima in a
race-long battle over third spot in F-750.
Jesse Morris got his second Sportsman 750
win dUring the same race, again ahead of
Geir Jacobsen.
In race I I, Fred Eiker kept his Ducati just
far enough ahead of the Triumph of Goshi
Ashikari to take the win in Sound of
Thunder, with Nigl getting third. Production
Singles featured a good lead battle as Gary
Dipietro took the win over Robert
McClendon III.
For Classics Days' final event - Formula
Vintage - Nixon had the Jerry Liggettowned Triumph triple raring to go, and he
and Springsteen put on a show of back-andforth racing. Lap after lap, however,
Springsteen would draft the Harley past
Nixon headed into turn one. Coming up to
the checkered flag, Springsteen did it again,
and the two appeared to cross the line in a
dead heat. Officials gave the win to
Springsteen.
"I knew he was coming," Nixon said of
Springteen's last-lap move. "I had everything tucked in I could. If you've ever
raced with Springsteen, it's an adrenaline
CN
rush for sure."
