Florida Flat Track Series American Suzuki's Jake Johnson and Motion Pro's Chris Hart right behind him. When Murphree slipped out of the groove, Mees, Russell and Kenny Coolbeth all drove by him. At the finish, Murphree was able to hold on to fourth, over Johnson's Suzuki. Gary Conklin read the light perfectly in the 505cc Pro Sport main and led Aaron King, Chase Sconyers and Bryan Hazel into the first turn. King made several attempts to wedge his way into the lead but finally had to settle for second. Obermeyer Yamaha's John Olmstead worked his way up to third, over Lew Woods. KK Motorcycle Supply F&S HarleyDavidson's A.J. Eslick looked to have the Harley-Davidson Sportster Performance main locked up, but Clayton Riggle was flying through the pack after a slow start and almost surprised Eslick at the finish line. Brandon Laursen cruised home third. BARBERVILLE. FLORIDA. MARCH 6 The AMA Hot Shoe Series roared into the Volusia Speedway Park half-mile for round two on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. The event was the third race in three days for many of the competitors. In the 750/ IOOOcc Expert main, Mees shot into the lead over Latus HarleyDavidson/Jones Powersports' Joe Kopp and Murphree. Kopp closed on Mees, but five laps into the 12-lap race, Kopp's day was done. Murphree was now a solid second, and Paul Lynch was bringing his KK Supply/Fredericktown Yamaha/AXObacked Harley to the front from the second row. However, Lynch was running out of time, despite almost catching Murphree. Shaun Russell held off Las Vegas HarleyDavidson/Schaffer's Harley-Davidson's Geo Roeder and Steve Beattie for fourth. Good news for the Factory Suzuki 46 team, Kevin Varnes and Jake Johnson both made the main and finished ninth and seventh, respectively. Russell put his Honda up front in the 50Scc Expert main, with Kopp's KTM breathing- . his neck.Mees was lurking just off the pace in third. Mees picked the leaders off one at a time and started to ride off into the sunset. Kopp was hounding Russell as they were comfortably ahead of White's Harley-Davidson/Scott Powers ports' John Raun Wood, Continental Tires' Greg Tysor, Beattie and Zanotti Racing/A&A Racing's Sam Halbert. The complexion of the race changed completely on lap nine, when Russell's Honda expired. Unfortunately for Kopp, it was just as he was taking a run up Russell's outside. As Russell tried to get out of the way, he inadvertently took Kopp off the groove and out of contention. Wood grabbed second and was soon challenged by Halbert, but the young Halbert had to settle for third. Tysor, Beattie and Kopp rounded out the topsix. Suzuki's Varnes brought one of the new Suzuki RM-Z450s home in seventh. Eslick is fast becoming the cream of the Harley-Davidson Sportster Performance class. He qUickly assumed the lead and appeared to be motoring away. But after a poor start, Clayton Riggle was closing on Eslick as the laps wore down. Heavy into lapped riders, Riggle didn't notice that Eslick's Sportster went sour on the last lap. When the checkered flag fell, Riggle was the big winner over D&D MARCH 23, 2005 • CYCLE NEWS Cycles' Rob McLendon and Wolverine Performance/Laursen Racing's Brandon Laursen, as they filled out the top-three positions in the wild finish. New York's Gary Conklin pushed his AGRIBinghamton Honda-backed Honda to the holeshot in the 505cc Pro Sport main. KK Supply/F&S Harley-Suzuki's Ricky Marshall and Ron Wood Racing/Maxxis/AV Kawasaki's Alex Wood settled into second and third_ Just past the halfway point, Wood's Yamaha quit. John Olmstead filled the gap left by Wood on his Yamaha. Schaeffer's Harley-Davidson's Brian Phillips and Low Country Mechanic's Chase Sconyers rounded out the top-five. BARBERVILLE. FLORIDA. MARCH B After a day off, the half-mile portion of Bike Week came to a close at Volusia Speedway Park. The 505cc Expert main roared into the first turn with MemphiS Shades' J.R. Schnabel looking to unseat Mees for the first time at Barberville. For five laps, Mees was all over Schnabel. As they entered turn three, Mees saw an opening and tried to go under Schnabel, who came out on the short end of the deal and ended up on the ground. The race was red-flagged and Schnabel had to start from the back of the 12-rider field on the restart. Mees picked up right up where he left off, with John Raun Wood leading Tysor and Wiles. Mees went on to his fifthstraight main-event win, while Tysor got by Wood on the last lap for second. Schnabel clawed his way back up to sixth, behind Wiles and Steve Beattie. The 750/ IOOOcc main wasn't quite as big of a challenge for Mees as he wrapped up his excellent week. He got the holeshot over teammate Beattie and cruised to the win. Gary Rogers worked his way by Beattie for second as the top positions were filled. SuperTrapp /Lombardi's Harley-Davidson's Mike Hacker and Eslick rounded out the top-five. Riggle overcame a mid race lapse to beat Bryan Hazel in the Harley-Davidson Sportster Performance main. MZR Helmets' Bryan Pankey worked his way up to third. Conklin also wrapped up a successful week as he led the 505cc Pro Sport main all the way. Sconyers, Brian Phillips and Ricky Marshall were fighting over second until Phillips slipped out of the groove and fell back into the pack. Sconyers and Marshall rounded out the winners' circle. eN OGLETHORPE SPEEDWAY SAVANNAH, GEORGIA RESULTS: MARCH 4, 2005 505 PRO·SPORT MAIN: I. Chase Sconyers (Hon); 2. Gary Conklin (Hon); J.
