The 100cc class is a new class for SVRG, in addition to the regular Vintage and Evolution classes. It proved to be loads of fun for the competitors who were able to get bikes together in time for the race. In the first combined IOOcc moto, Foes won the Novice portion without much trouble. "Well, besides not riding in about 30 years, it was different," he replied when asked to describe his first moto. "It was like going through a time warp. It was a lot of fun!" Foes took the checkered flag and the win, with Dan Scharf following in second. In the Intermediate class, Brad DeHore, also on a cleanly restored Hodaka, topped the first moto, with Lee Fabry, on a Steens Hodaka, in second and Paul DuChene rounding out the top three. In the Expert class, it was Chris Corum taking first on a XR/CT Honda and Norm Bigelow finishing in second on a Kawasaki. In the second 100cc moto, the track was pretty rough, which made it much more difficult for the little 100s to climb the uphill on the Glen Helen back track. Everyone survived, with the exception of Bigelow. who made a late entrance to the race after missing the start. Again, Foes put his prior Hodaka experience to use and won handily, over Scharf, in the Novice class. Fabry took the lead early in the Intermediate class but succumbed to the pressure of DeHore and had to settle for second, followed by DuChene in third overall. Corum and Bigelow were first and second in the Experts. Maico-mounted Darrel Sedig fought a tough battle but prevailed in the Evolution Two Intermediate class. In the first mota, Sedig gated second to Ed Reyes. He kept Reyes in Sight for most of the moto but could not get close enough to attempt a pass. Conditioning was the problem. 46 Brent Foes came out of retirement and won the new 100" Novice class at the SVRG event at Glen Helen Raceway Park. "I took a few months off to build a house," Sedig said, "so 1haven't ridden for a while." At the finish, it was Reyes in first, with Sedig second and Speck rounding out the top three. Between motos, Sedig must have been digging deep for some inspiration to get him through the second mota, because he got the holeshot and looked strong right out of the gate. It ended up being 5edig, Reyes and Errol Leduc battling tooth and nail for most of the moto. You couldn't fit another bike between the trio. At the finish, it was Sedig who grabbed the checkers first, with Reyes following in second and Leduc taking third. Overall, it was Sedig, Reyes, and then Speck, who narrowly edged out Leduc for third on the day. RESULTS 100 NOV: I. Brent Foes (Hod); 2. Dan Scharf (Hod). 1DO INT: I. Brad DeHore (Hod); 2. CAROLYN REED PURVIS, MS, JAN. 30 The Mississippi Hi-Point Club hosted round two of the SERA Hare Scrambles Series, sending 223 riders on a 7-mile loop that included a motocross track and a mixture of singletrack woods and logging roads. An abundant helping of off-camber trails and rolling hills set the southern boys up for the fast Blazing Saddies Hare Scrambles. The reigning SERA Hare Scrambles champion set the woods ablaze, saddled on his 2005 Gas Gas DE300. Making it two for two, Reed has opened up the season nicely, claiming early wins while competing with new faces. Grabbing the holes hot, Reed, Glen Myatt and Steve Nicholas were lined up at the first turn in a perfect row, with the KTM-mounted Myatt leading them into the woods. Reed passed Nicholas and Myatt before entering the motocross track and held the lead until lap four. Cliff Ousley then took the lead halfway through the fourth lap, gaining precious seconds on Reed. At the end of the fifth lap, Reed came through the scoring tent just inches behind Ousley, and then he made the critical pass. Breaking away from Ousley, Reed set out on his fastest lap of the day - 19 minutes and 30 seconds. On the last lap, Ousley went down in a fast turn on the motocross track while trying to catch up after gassing up. Reed took the win with 45 seconds to spare. Will McConnell was on the gas in the 200cc A class, sporting his one-of-a-kind "KTM graphics." His impressive ride gave him the class win, along with IOth overall for the day. "I had fun!" McConnell enthused. "The loop was almost like an enduro test section. I want to thank Central Alabama Motorsports for all their help at the races." Gas Gas pilot Bennie Waldrop edged out Randy Edgen in the Super Senior class, leaving third place for Jim Hillburn. "My bike ran good," Waldrop said. "The track was great, yet safe. The trails were watered just right - no dust. Thanks to Hattiesburg Cycles for the bike!" After a spill and several surgeries last year, Darin laFleur of the Vet B class managed to get into second place after the first woods section but then crashed on the fourth lap in some offcamber stuff. "It took me too long to get going again, and I ended up finishing third," LaFleur lamented. "The Hattiesburg Cycles Suzuki is a fun bike to race hare scrambles on, and it did really well." The Mississippi Hi-Point Club's hard work and efforts in delivering another successful event are much appreciated. RESULTS AA: I. Stephen Reed (GG); 2. Cliff Ousley (Yam); 3. Frank Davis (KTM); 1.
