and we made good time - with a pause to try a hillclimb at the base of Jawbone Canyon. With our thirst for hillclimbs quenched, we rode on to lunch, enjoyed a hearty meal, and topped off gas for the return trip. After lunch, the afternoon loop was 63 miles back to Ridgecrest, and the route wound up though the EI Paso Mountains - a great place to ride and see some incredible scenery. One of the trails was "The Waterfall" - a tight wash that drops you out next to an abandoned mine. This "hard" way was a alternate to the "easy" way Robbie Horton won both the 125cc and 250cc Pro/Expert main events at the Regional Arenacross Series event in Broadbent Arena in Louisville, Kentucky. the lead from Chester for the win. Oettel passed Chester for second place on lap (ive, and Willoh took third place from Chester on lap six. Chester continued to fade. as Stone and Weimer both made the pass near the end for the final running order. The only race Horton didn't win was the Dash For Cash. Willoh took the holeshot, in front of Weimer and Chester. Weimer passed Willoh for the lead and the win. and Race Tech/Maxxis/Fly Racing Suzuki rider Brad Ripple also got by Willoh for second place. Willoh held on to third place. in front of Horton. Jadd Knox took first place in the Extreme Jump-Off contest for the second night in a row, riding a Hardrock MX,com/Streits Motor Sports Suzuki. Randy Woodring finished second on a Tassell Racing/Babbitt's Sports Center Suzuki. Greg Brooks placed third on an Afterglow/JMC Racing Yamaha. Tyler Bowers dominated the Intermediate classes, taking the win in both the 125cc and 2S0cc Intermediate classes on a Shift! EW20/Napstar/Renthal Honda. Justin "Pooh" Sipes finished second in the 2S0cc Intermediate class on a Team FCA/O'Neal/Team Green Kawasaki, in front of Jacob Evans, riding an Alpha Motor Sport Yamaha. Day two took us west through the EI Paso Mountains and then south to Randsburg. After lunch, we rode through the Trona Pinnacles, which is truly one of the most spectacular geological sites in the desert. It's like walking onto the set of a sci-fi movie. With another 100-plus miles logged, we packed our gear up and, sadly, left for home. As the official sweep for the ride, the Orange County Dualies lent support whenever possible. The efforts of all the OC Dualies Nicholas Howard finished fourth, and Patrick Massie claimed fifth place riding a Simpson/ GS3Nista Kawasaki. Dusty Walker finished second in the 12Scc Intermediate class on a Gateway Cycles Kawasaki, followed by Suzuki-mounted Tyler Pemberton. Kris Miller finished fourth on a Factory Connection/Honda East Suzuki, with Massie taking fifth. High Desert 250 Dual Sport Ride Desert Sports Center Bv DAVE HARLAN that took riders up a wash called the "Corkscrew." Either way, riders were challenged. On the route back, we deviated from the course and explored some more single-track, using a GPS to navigate. It was getting late, so we picked the trail back up and started back to the hotel. At the buffet dinner, the talk was about the great day we'd had. The food was superb, and Sound great? That's what the 16th annual High Desert 250 Dual Sport Ride was like. This was a two-day, noncompetitive ride. Saturday's weather was perfect: plenty of sunshine, mild temperatures, and a little wind to clear the dust. Leaving from Ridgecrest, the route traveled west, crossing over Highway 395 and Highway 14 and then around Robbers Roost. Then it turned south through the hills west of Highway 14 to Sageland, over to Dove Spring, and eventually into Jawbone Canyon - a total of 73 off-road miles before lunch. This was a blast, MARCH 9, 2005 • CYCLE NEWS ANZA, CA, JAN. 30 eremy McGrath made a special appearance in the Pro classes as Vet X rolled out round three of the Winter Series at Cahuilla Creek. With the series well under way, the riders are working hard for series championships. The Open Pro class stormed off the line with Spud Walters leading the first lap, followed by Lillie Leighton and McGrath. On lap two, Walters dropped to third, moving Leighton and McGrath to first and second. Leighton worked hard to keep McGrath behind him, but McGrath took the lead, putting Leighton in second, while Walters dropped out, putting Willy Musgrave in third. The final finishing order would be McGrath, Leighton and Musgrave. Moto two saw McGrath pull away in the J lead, with Leighton in second, followed by Walters. On lap three, Walters moved into third. With McGrath easily pulling out to a strong lead, the battle shaped up between the second and third riders. Leighton held on until the end for second, with Walters placing third. McGrath took the overall win, Leighton was second, and Musgrave (3-4) was third overall. In the 28-35 Beginner class, Sean Kamborian took the lead in the first moto, with Steve Herrmann in second and Eric Scott in third. Scott Terrell worked his way from a midpack start to challenge for third. Kamborian led from start to finish. followed by Herrmann and Terrell. In the second moto, Kamborian took the lead. Troy Powell was charging hard in second, with Terrell and Herrmann Sitting in third and fourth. On lap four, Powell passed Kamborian,
