Golden State MX Nationals Round 3: Argyll Cycle Park Clever Is As Clevenger Does By MIKE VANCIL DIXON, CA, JAN. 23 n his Suzuki four-stroke, Bryan Clevenger completely dominated the Pro classes of this CMC round hosted by Argyll Cycle Park and promoted by MotoWest Racing. His dominance was total, despite his use of caution off the start line in every moto; He never once earned a holeshot in his four rides. Nonetheless, he won overall in the Pro classes, and he did so with four stellar mota wins! His performance brought anention to the fact that this rider from Lacy, Washington, brought four other riders from his home state to contest those classes - and they also dominated. In the 125cc class, Honda riders from Washington got the holeshots: Miles Warren in the first moto, and Tracy Johnson in the second moto. In moto one, Warren followed Clevenger across the finish stripe. In the second moto. Johnson faded to second, behind the charging Clevenger. Johnson ended with a 3-2 day for second overall, while Warren scored a DNS in mota two. There were five Californians and five Washingtonians in the class; the Washington lads finished first and second overall. There was a greater display of dominance in the 2S0cc Pro class, though this time there were only four Californians entered compared to the five Washingtonians. The latter earned a onerwo-three-four sweep of the class. In this class, Warren and Johnson reversed roles; The firstmoto holeshot was Johnson's, while the secondmoto holeshot belonged to Warren. Though Warren was tough in mota one, getting by Johnson, he finished behind Clevenger again. The second moto saw Johnson get by Warren, but he, too, watched the back of Clevenger's jersey at the checkers. Unfortunately, Warren encountered some trouble and finished an uncharacteristic ninth, while Johnson got another 3-2 performance to earn second overall. Another bit of motocross dominance was witnessed during this huge day of motocross attended by some 400 riders. Kyle Tigert is not quite 12, but his "ironman" performance on KTM and Suzuki machines attracted a great deal of attention. He entered three classes and won all five motos he got to ride; darkness canceled the second 60cc (9-1 I) moto. He ended his very busy day with three first-place trophies! In the 60cc classes, Tigert faced eight riders in the 9-1 I class and nine riders in the Open class. He scored three holeshots and three moto victories. In the 80cc (7-1 I) class, Tigert beat O Patrick and Brian Garrahan are all smiles after taking first and second in the mud at round two of the AMA District 36 Moose Western Regional Cross Country Championship Series. AMA District 36 Moose Western Regional Cross Country Championship Series Motul Western Regional BIC Cross Country Series Round 2/2: Prairie City SVRA Sibling Rivalry on the Prairie By LISA K. GRAGG PRAIRIE CITY, CA, JAN. 23 N orCal Motorsports/Maxxis/G Brothers Racing-backed Suzuki jockey Brian Garra- han topped the second round of the AMA District 36 Moose Western Regional Cross Country Championship Series, followed by his brother Patrick Garrahan. Some 790 riders raced over the weekend in the cold, fog and mud. The Polka Dots Motorcycle Club put on a great event, as they have for the past 27 years. The I D.2-mile course included a motocross track, a supermotard section on a paved road, and technical sections. However, the biggest challenge of the day was the mud - a slimy layer of two to four inches covering the course. After the first lap, even the paved section had a couple inches of slippery mud on it. Fox/Scott-backed KTM rider Brian Sperle absconded with the holes hot, followed by Brian and then Mach I Motorsports rider Alex Gragg. As the first dozen riders hit the slick pavement, a rider came from behind and passed everyone in his path - 17-year-old Pro flat-tracker Rodney Spencer Jr., who unfortunately crashed not long after that. Kawasaki rider Damian Galford took the lead after Patrick and Sperle tangled near the end of lap one. Sperle then had to deal with bent bars for the rest of the race. Galford held the lead through lap two. He completed four laps before dropping out due to spoke problems. Number-one-ranked District 36 rider Jordan Brandt led lap three. Patrick took the lead on lap five. Then Brian moved to the front and led the next couple of laps to take the win. "I like to take it a little easy and check out the course the first lap or so," Brian said. En route to placing second, Patrick also had a tangle with Galford - and while picking himself up from that encounter, he was hit by his brother, who was tapped in fifth gear, and they were both sent sprawling, but thankfully there were no injures. Brandt stayed near the front the entire race and was rewarded with third. Brian Butler kept up a good battle -at one point, he held second place - and ended in fourth. From the second lap on, the top 10 was pretty much set, and included another set of brothers: high schoolers Alex and Garrison Gragg. The IS-year-old Garrison trailed his brother by seconds as they placed fifth and eighth overall, reversing their finishes from the Hollister National two weeks before. Vallejo Powersports Suzuki rider Heather Wilson won the Women's AA class and finished an impressive 43rd overall. The B class was overalled by IS-year-old NorCal Motorsports Yamaha rider Jonathan Godman, who just recently moved to the B class. He finished an impressive 22nd overall. Leading the C class of 31 S riders was Patrick Smart. Fourteen-year-old Kacy Martinez dominated the Women's B class and placed 14th overall. The Women's C class' 18 riders were led by KTM-mounted Patricia Henning. eight contestants off the line in both motos and took the checkers in first place both times. Placing second in the 60cc (9-11) class was Jesse Andrews, and third was Skylar Garcia. In the 60cc Open class, Garcia (4-2) was second overall, and Anthony Walsh (3-3) earned third overall. The 80cc (7-1 I) featured two secondplace finishes by Kawasaki-mounted 1: Lo White, who is sponsored by L.A. Sleeve, Pro-X, Klotz and Pro-Action Suspension. A pair of thirds got Yamaha jockey Zack Van Meter third overall. RESULTS P/W 50 BEG: I. Ryan Fain (KTM); 2. Collin Whitney (KTM); 3. Marcus Nims (Cob); 4. Tr.lvis Hopkins (KTM); S. Tyler Ellis (KTM).
