Needing points after his first-race duck, Olsson made the gate and led heat five for a lap before the red stoplights came on. Behind him, Chrisco had ridden straight into Courtney and launched them both headfirst into the wall. Both riders needed medical attention for a few minutes, but they walked back to the pits unaided, to the applause of the shocked crowd. The heat was declared finished, as Chrisco's RESULTS O/A: I. Barlow and Meldrum met in the next heat to decide the second position on the grid for the main. Barlow came out on top of the tight battle. With Courtney injured and Kelley having seen Chrisco wreck his bike, Sweden's Olsson took the pole on the last-chance grid. He made no mistakes and was joined in the final by Little and the improving Ferrow. Fafard headed the racers onto the main grid, with Barlow and Meldrum alongside him on row one, but Fafard didn't make it into the first bend, as his bike died on the line, leaving Barlow, Meldrum, Olsson and Little to battle it out. Olsson passed Little for third on lap two, but there was no catching Barlow, who won the Speed Challenge impressively in front of the Speed Channel television cameras. This was Speed Channel's first visit to XIIR. "We are delighted to cover tonight's race, tI said Speed Channels' Ralph Sheheen. "I, has been superb." XIIR promoter Barlow was equally happy. "Having tonight's race covered by Speed is just what we need for this series," Barlow stated. "We are pleased with their interest in XIIR. The series is really heating up in 2ooS. This year was no exception, as the first night of a weekends' worth of racing also brought freezing rain and high winds, followed by snow. Another storm packing an even bigger punch blew up from Omaha, Nebraska, in the form of a trio of riders that hammered the competition. That competition consisted of more than 200 riders, including the 43 riders signed up in the 12Scc C class. KTM jockey Nick Stroeher showed the Pee Nick Fafard dominated the heat races at round four of the X-treme International AMA Ice Racing Sports Series, but his bike died at the line in the main event. Wee B class a glimpse of what the rest of the evening would bring by going undefeated throughout the evening. Stroeher defeated Jaden Griese, Michael Braman and Corbin Olson in the first heat. The main event again showcased Stroeher, who easily took the win, and Olson placed second, in front of the always-quick Cole Schoenrock and Braman. The next Nebraskan to strut his stuff was lnterlakes Sport Center/Works Connection! FMFbacked Chris Cochran. Every year, there's a buzz in the stands about the "new kid." This year, the Swift Center," Brandon Hoff, who, interestingly enough, is also from Nebraska. However, on this night, the Honda-mounted Travis Hodges dethroned Hoff. The 12Scc A class started off with Hodges taking the heat win, followed by Parts Unlimited-backed Kelley Kurtz and Hoff. In the main, Hodges again took the win, with Kurtz second, Rick Dittus third, and Kyle McCutcheon fourth - while Hoff was unable to start the race. The 2S0cc NOpen class featured many of the same racers as the 125cc A class, but it also included multiple-time motocross champion Bill Stork. Hodges again took the heat win, with Hoff second and Brandon Parks third, just in front of MidAmerica Motoplex-backed Jesse Cochran was that kid. He was riding in the escc A class, but he was literally in a class by himself. He jumped the triple, smoked through the rhythm section, and blitzed the whoops like a veteran. Cochran easily won his heat and main event, which was pretty impressive, as he was competing against such riders as Hea'h Kingery. Robby Wolfgang. Austin Anderson and Sean Heronemus. The best that Omaha had to offer shined in the 12Scc A and 2SOcc NOpen classes.
