he original V-Rod motorcycle was a revelation - if only
in the eyes of Harley traditionalists. But let's not
assume they liked it. In fact, the Milwaukee faithful
who couldn't fathom the idea of a liquid-cooled Harley
scoffed at the idea. To the rest of the motorcycle
world, it was a sigh of relief that Harley had joined the modern
T
industrial era. It was a true love-hate relationship.
"It set the mark because there was nothing else like it out there
at the time," director of product development Bill Davidson said.
Popularity contests aside, when the V-Rod was released in 200 I
as a '02 model, most editors were blown away at the performance
from the liquid-cooled, I 130cc, 60-degree V-twin motor. Most
were also impressed with the bike's silver-aluminum Porschedesigned skin, which redefined in an instant what an OEM cruiser
could look like.
