ven Juha (pronounced yoo-ha) Salminen was a bit
surprised with the outcome at the opening round of
the Suzuki Grand National Cross Country Series in
Gilmer, Texas. After all, the IO-time World Enduro
Champion was treading relatively untested waters
when he took on America's best in '~merica's premier
off-road racing series." But the Finnish rider moved
quickly to the front of the pack, after a 19th-place
start, and battled KTM teammate Mike Lafferty and Suzuki's new-kid-on-the-block,
Australian Enduro Champion Glenn Kearney. for five laps on a very technical and
rocky course before pulling away for a
comfortable win.
